Has The Price Of Noodler's Inks Been Raised?

I get a frequent E-mail from Jet Pens touting their sales. In the latest one they make a big thing about having Noodler's inks in stock. So I looked. The price of every Noodler's ink on their site is $15 per bottle, and these are the French square bottles, the "3 oz." ones.

 

Is the price of Noodler's ink being raised by 20% everywhere, or is Jet Pens the only one charging this new price for it? Will we see other vendors selling Noodler's inks for more soon?

 

I know that Nathan went to the (mostly) unpopular plastic bottles for a while in order to avoid a price rise on the inks, so it would seem strange for him to suddenly raise the price by 20% after that experience.

Goulet Pens and Goldspot are still showing those for $12.50. We'll see what happens in a few days, I guess.

I am surprised to read this as I read before that they went to plastic bottles because their glass bottle supplier had decided to stop producing them and that they were searching for a new supplier.

I think you're both right - IIRC the original glass bottle supplier was raising their prices so to avoid passing that along, he switched to plastic until he found a new glass bottle supplier.

JetPens does offer free shipping on orders over $25, I believe. Perhaps their higher price is to cover the cost of that "free" shipping.

I'm really confused -- I thought that JetPens didn't sell Noodler's ink. Is this a new thing? And Noodler's doesn't show up in their "brands" listing. Did they turn up an old box or something, and are selling it off on the quiet?

 

EDIT: That last question was mostly in jest, though I see that they have plastic bottles and newer inks like Berning Red, so it couldn't actually be old stock they turned up.

I verified with the distributor that there has been no price increase. MSRP remains $12.50 though even at $15 it would be a bargain compared to many brands.

Well, look at that. I'm ... not sure that being the only place charging $15 when *everybody else* charges $12.50 is going to be a winning strategy. But, of course, the low free shipping requirement can offset that pretty readily.

This. I've had to give up on Goulet: for shipping to Canada, Vanness charges half the amount.

I have been very happy with EVERY transaction I have made with JET PENS & one included a special request to change a nib on a pen prior to shipping; their shipping is ULTRA fast considering it is 2,000 miles to my address. I have not compared prices for their individual items for sale but did so after this initial post. It does seem that they are a bit higher than other sellers on specific items. Perhaps this is their attempt to off set their free shipping which is certainly generous.

 

I have found shipping charges vary from each retailer as many posts have already indicated; I certainly will never forget a shipping charge of $20.00 when I ordered an $89.00 item from another online seller. Since then I always check the charge & often cancel the order if I see the shipping charge doesn't seem reasonable to me. I am surely aware that "nothing is free" but I appreciate having the option to consider when I make my decision to purchase. I have surely appreciated the threshold of both JET PENS & VANNESS PENS purchase cost to qualify for their "free" shipping.

 

I do not feel able to understand the reasons each retailer sets the shipping charges for their respective company but it is surely possible for me to try & determine which is a better option for my purchase. It is my responsibility to manage my spending just as they manage their business plan in regard to costs of operation.

I worry that I've given in incorrect impression: I love JetPens. They're the first online retailer I ordered from when I started the hobby, and they're still the first site I go to when I'm shopping for something. Their shipping is absurdly fast, their selection is excellent, and their prices always good. I'm ecstatic that they're carrying Noodler's again, as that's the one brand that I regularly look for that they didn't carry.

 

I just haven't ever seen any price variation in Noodler's ink, the way I regularly see different prices for Sailor, Iroshizuku, Platinum, and so on. I was wondering if Noodler's had a contractual requirement of their vendors to always sell for the MSRP, in fact. Clearly, as @Ted A noted, the price isn't as universally fixed as I'd thought.
