Rotring Artpen Nib Exchange

Hi Everyone,

 

I have been reading this forum for awhile. I can find great reviews here for what I am really grateful.

 

This time however I have an issue I need help with.
My 1st ever fountain pen was a Rotring ArtPen EF nib. Recently the cap falls off & due to its "outfit" I cannot use at everyday's work - on the other hand I really-really love its nib (no wonder - I used it 8+ years only! for writing).

 

Could you please support me what is the size of the nib, or with which pens I could exchange the nib?

I tried several EF pens to substitute this nib (Pilot, Hero, Parker) but no luck yet - so it would be great if I could use this one.

Ha. I had the reverse problem. I disliked my Rotring nib and tried to fit another nib and feed into the Artpen's section.

 

No joys here either.

I hope you find an answer.

Hi, I have this pen also, the nibs are made only to fit this Artpen, no others will fit it.

So if you like to use your 'EF' nib, you might have to buy a new Artpen, and then fit your old 'EF' nib to it.

The problem might be that the cap has broken, and you only need to change the cap for a new one from a new Artpen.

So if you do have to buy a whole new pen, and then put your old 'EF' nib on it, it will not cost too much money; in UK it's £13.55 in May 2016

And if it lasts another 8 years, that good value for the money.

The Artpen nib is a unique shape, so you are not very likely to find other pens that you can fit the nib into. I actually have a suspicion that the original Rotring Artpen was made under contract with Mutschler a long time ago. Mutschler made pens and nibs for a few companies. Some of Montblanc's lower cost production in the 70's was made entirely by them. They also made Reform pens.

I think Rotring pulled the production of the pen in-house later, and then Parker took over production of the pen in their UK plant (which I believe has folded as well) after Rotring was bought out by Sanford. The Artpen nibs follow a pattern I have seen in a few Mutschler-made pens. Mutschler has folded many years ago, and it seems that you are quite unlikely to find any other modern pen that uses that nib.

Thank you for the in-depth history. I never imagined I happened choose a pen so unique like this.

Well.. I try other pens then, maybe I find a nib which is not too thin, yet similar to what I got used to

Can't find my Rotring Artpen, but I have a Rotring Esprit set here,and as far as I remember it uses the same nib. It's a very slender pen, though, I personally prefer more heft.

 

So I guess there will be more Rotring pens using the same nib/feed, and I think you can exchange nibs like Lamy. Alas the Lamy and Rotring nibs are not identical. Pelikan also uses a very similar nib on their low end pens.

The Esprit uses a different feed and nib from the Artpen. You can swap the Esprit nib with the 800 or 600 series Rotrings though.

I’m talking from memory here, but I seem to remember the Art Pen used a similar nib and feed as the plastic bodied Rotring Altro, and the metal bodied Rotring 900. Can anyone confirm this?
