Eternan Gandhi Fountain Pen

Eternal Gandhi is an inexpensive pen marketed by Aditya Birla Group at a price of Rs 990/- (US$15) to commemorate on of the greatest human beings of 20th century. A man who stood for equality, sharing, non-violence and truth as he believed all humans were created equal. His doctrines of Ahimsa (non-violence), Satyagraha (non co-operation) and Satya (truth) shook the foundations of British Empire.

Mont Blanc produced a Mahatma Gandhi 241 pen to celebrate this great persona and his Dandi March of 241 miles but priced it so high that it became impossible for normal people like me to purchase it. It was priced at about US$20,000.Then came this pen from the family of one of the closest friends of Mahatma - the Birlas.

It is boxed in a black gift box with Eternal Gandhi imprinted on it…

The pen is black with gold trim and marbled acrylic barrel. The black cap has a cap band with beautiful scrimshaw design while the clip is a ball end.

The rear of the cap has an imprint of a famous caricature of Mahatma in white outline from the Dandi March by Ranga.

The barrel is marbled brown and black with flecks of gold.

The barrel end has a faux black end cap with a gold ring separating it from the marbled portion.

I bought a Medium nib and a convertor-cartridge filling system. Although it seems to be a Chinese product created for Aditya Birla Group, the pen is a smooth, wet writer.

It is a large pen with a weight of about 39 gms but perfectly balanced and a very good writer. Its USP is the fact that it pays homage to the greatest man of 20th century - Mahatma Gandhi.

This review is my humble tribute to Bapu and a thank you to Aditya Birla Group for this undertaking.

What pen Gandhi used?

I know he had a pocket Zenith watch, received as gift, but what pen did he actually use?

Nice review, thanks!

I had a couple of questions about the pen:

  • Who makes nibs for this pen? Can you post a close up image of the nib at your convenience?
  • Is the cap threaded or does it snap to fit?

I like the design of the pen. And your photos show the material of the pen very nicely.

I did not buy this pen as it looked very much a Chinese product. Aditya Birla group should have commissioned one of our very own independent pen manufacturers to take the Swadeshi spirit forward.

  • 3 weeks later...

This pen is a Chinese pen as written in AMAZON and getting sold there. why the Birla group did not deploy an Indian designer!!

MONT BLANC had a pen called GANDHI costs $ 14000.
