Help To Identify Hard Rubber Pen

Rockliffebank

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have acquired a pen which I thought would be rather easy to identify seeing as it had clear and crisp engravings on the side. I thought that a quick Google would enlighten me as to make, age , rarity etc. Alas , no such luck . The engraving says: The "Perfecto" lever self filler. The nib says 14k Warranted and has an ovoid breather hole. That is all I know! Can anyone please help?

The Perfecto was one of Mentmore's earliest 'quality' pen brand's dating from 1923 onwards. A fairly common pen from that period, so it must have sold well. I only know of bhr Perfecto's, so it was probably replaced by another brand quite quickly.

Mentmore was a prolific creator of different fountain pen brands during the 1920's and 30's.

Best way to figure if it is hard rubber is the rub and sniff test.

While doing some research yesterday I came across an advert by Mentmore in 1932 that said "maker of Platignum, Paramount, Mayflower, Perfecto, Spot and Popular Prince" so the Perfecto lasted much longer than I thought. Looking at the style of pen and nib I would say that it was an early pen though.
