Pentax Takumar Lens, Twsbi Vac 700 In Amber

Recommended Posts

During the weekend I was playing around with Pentax Takumar lenses from the 1960s and 1970s, mounted on a Canon EOS M body. This image was created with a Takumar 85mm f1.9. TWSBI Vac 700, inked with Sailor Jentle miruai, 1.1 mm italic. The image with the lens was shot with the Canon EOS 22mm f2 kit lens.

Great shots! Some of the older lenses are really nice. Did you have to use an adapter or are the mounts compatible?

Deborah, Good question -- I used a $10 adapter from China. The M42 lens adapters are extremely common. No glass, just a tube.

You've got me thinking (again), I have a number of Pentax Takumar lenses from the 70's which have now been in "cotton wool" for the last 15 years...Must do the research on a digital camera body as my enthusiasm is being rekindled... Any ideas...???

Vaibhav, do you use a Sony A6000 for the outstanding photographs you shoot? What lens(es)?

Why not use Pentax themselves ? The new K-1 is getting raving review and will go back and support every M, K, A, F, FA or DA lens ever made.

Bobje, can I ask why you picked a Sony A6000 for your camera body when you already had Takumar lenses...I would have thought you might stick with the Pentax body...??? Just asking as I am now doing my research now....

Thank you Justin!

Kulindi, I use a Canon EOS M that I purchased 3 years ago. It also shoots video and has an audio input, and because it is mirrorless it can use all kinds of vintage lenses, with adapters. These adapters are just mounts -- they do not contain lenses. The reason I suggested Sony Alpha 6000 is that it also is mirrorless, accepts vintage lenses with adapters and there are lots of them, shoots video, and Sony has been leading in this space. There are also active forums for the camera. Unfortunately it does not accept audio-in for an external microphone, but audio can be handled in another way.

Bobje, Many thanks for the info and for pointing me in the right direction. I shall be in the camera stores in coming weeks checking out the options...It's going to be hard saying goodbye to the old Spotmatic F which has provided faithful service since I purchased it back in 1975....

Spotmatics are beautifully made cameras. I think I have about 3 of the bodies, which came with lenses attached. The lenses work beautifully with mirrorless cameras, or with the Canon EOS system.

Yes it is... excellent cameras, very poor marketing

Pentax was incredible in the 60s, and 70s; the SPotmatic is so good, that t feels like a comfort blanket, the K series (Kx, K2) was groundbreaking and the M series brought a electronic shutters and controls mainstream... they even had the 1st autofocus commercial camera (ME-F)

I think that after the LX, the marketing of Nikon, Canon, and the innovation of Minolta just was too much...

then came the plastic cameras in the 90s which were horrible.

I bought into their Digitals, because they were affordable for all the glass I had(Nikon was just too expensive for old glass)

Great camera, built like tanks, stabilization in the body

I hope RIcoh keeps them alive
