The Marlen Aureus was a pen I didn't plan to buy, as I was completely unaware of its existence. So you could call it an impulse buy - one that has made me think twice about doubting my impulses.

Well done yourself, Alexander. Your review is well done and your handwriting is impeccable and I am in envy.

I collect ancient Roman, Greek and Byzantine coins. My only gold coins are from the Byzantine period, however. I had seen this pen, though I cannot recall when. Its price tag dissuaded me immediately from pursuing it, but I did admire it. I think you have a treasure here, and I hope you continue to enjoy it. ("Treasure," "aureus," "gold," get it. Oh, well.)

I have a couple Marlen FP's myself, and I must agree on your assessment of their quality. The basic design of my pens resemble yours - short and stubby, but quite comfortable to hold, even for long periods. Overall quality of mine is excellent, with very good materials, fit and finish and craftsmanship. The nibs are first class and they write extremely well. As I write this (comment), I wonder why I do not have a couple more. B)

Thanks for the compliments, visvamitra an FrankB. I have a rather lower opinion of my handwriting but I've realized that it improves when I love the pen I use. I believe this is a common occurrence in many aspects of human behaviour. Thankfully, I'm really polyamorous when it comes to fountain pens - some might even call me promiscuous.

Excellent review! I have never considered a Marlen, but will have to look hard again at this brand. I love the look of this pen. It has a elegant, vintage look to it. And your writing is very nice. Thank you for doing this.

Can you post the site where you bought this from?

Oo, the Aureus!

Someone brought his to Pen Posse (San Francisco) several years ago, so I was able to hold and admire it. It really is a captivating pen -- all those details. Lucky you!

Thank you especially for the hand-written review, for which your handwriting is wonderfully suited. You convey your appreciation of the pen very well. And the photos then explain what you are so excited about.
