Sailor Yuki-Akari

Sailor recently re-released the old four seasons inks. Sadly it's a limited edition (again!). I managed to get another three of them: Chu-shu, Waka-uguisu and Yuki-akari.

Yuki-akari is a very light, transparent and barely visible and highly impractical turquoise. In short: Meh.

This ink is more like J. Herbin than Sailor. What's the point of this ink?

Splash

(photo, scan)

I think the splash flattered this ink.

Sample

Meh again.

Comparison

I don't have anything paler than this ink (except Fujiyama Blue and the STORiA inks).

(Yuki-akari, Seitz Kreuznach Arctic Blue, Sailor Bung Box Fujiyama Blue, Iroshizuku Ajisai, Sailor STORiA Night Blue. All of these inks except Arctic Blue are all pretty meh to me.)

I agree. I like Arctic Blue - it's a very pretty colour and makes a good contrast on the page when used with some of the darker pinks like Yama-budo.

I can't see any point at all. Yuk is a good name for it

Thank you for the review though. :)

Totally agree with this ink being like a J. Herbin; that's exactly what I thought when I saw the writing samples:-P

Yuki means snow, and this is as light as the color of snow. :P

The name means something like "bright snow", maybe that's what Sailor is after, an icy snowy pale blue. I too hate unsaturated inks, perhaps this is better suited for drawing than writing. Given how transparent it looks, I doubt it will show up nicely even on black paper...

Even if we don't like the colour of the ink, we have to admit that Japanese ink names are often quite lyrical & are chosen with thoughtful consideration. Thanks for the explanation.

Exactly my reaction when I put the nib to the paper... That and did I really go nuts trying to find this?!

Excellent review though! Hopefully it will save others the worry of trying to hunt down a bottle :P
