Ranga Regular Vs Premium Ebonite

Recommended Posts

Looking to join a group buy but pretty new to ebonite. Was clarified that premium ebonite is imported.

However wanted to find out if there's a noticeable difference between the two in terms of quality, aesthetic and function?

Appreciate the sage advice

The primary difference is the colours. The "premium" imported ebonite colours are obviously different. There may be a difference in "quality" between the Indian made ebonite and the imported but as they are different colours you can't really compare them visually , each ebonite pens colour is unique anyway so you can't compare brightness of the ebonite, patterning etc. The pens are polished the same, feel the same and weigh about the same. I'm sure, although I haven't tested it, they would be just as durable.

Overall with the new range of ebonite there is plenty of choice in the regular ebonite but I do like the solid colours of the premium. Go with whichever you think looks best. I have ranga pens in both regular and premium ebonite and like them all. Hope that helps.

I've had two ebonite pens, one in the "premium" rod stock and one in the "regular" rod stock. I couldn't discern any difference between them in terms of quality. The only difference was the colour and the price. If that is indeed the case then it seems to me a little rich to call one "premium" because it suggests a higher quality. I hope someone who knows about ebonite can clear this issue up as it bugs me a bit.

I believe that it is Premium because you have to pay a premium for the importation of the foreign ebonite.

That is it. The colours are different, one is imported, the other isn't. If they could get all of the colours locally I am sure that they would. But it is Imported or not.

Your best bet is to email Teri at Peyton Street, she's very nice. BTW, all the Ranga's are made in India.

I have twelve (!!!!) Ranga pens, a mixture of regular and premium ebonites. The premium ebonites are just particularly more striking colour ways in my experience. I would imagine that the "premium" moniker is a nod to paying a bit more for a fancier colour, perhaps even a quaint result of translation to English. No harm, no foul. Fantastic pens and fantastic people to deal with, both from Kandan M.P. directly and Teri at Peyton Street Pens.
