Cross Townsend Blue Lapis Lazuli And Gold Fountain Pen

Hi,

I have a Cross Townsend Lazuli Blue Lapis and gold fountain pen that I got as part of my divorce settlement. We purchased the pen new in London in 1998. It was used a couple of times by my ex, a part time calligrapher, but still looks to be in perfect condition.

I want to sell this pen, but want to get an idea of how much its worth before putting it on ebay... and also if ebay is the best place to sell a pen like this.

I've seen some prices online, but they range from $299 to $999, mostly from posts 5 years ago or more, so uncertain of its worth.

I think the Lapis is a special colour that may fetch a bit more.

 

But a typical new Quartz Blue Lacquer Townsend with 18k gold nib is offered for 225EUR in my local B&M shop annex webshop.

 

I know prices downunder tend to be somewhat higher, but I wouldn't expect to get much more out of it, on the bay or elsewhere.

Over the past couple of years that I've focused more on pen collecting (and on Cross Townsends in particular), the cheapest I recall seeing a Lapis in good quality sell for on eBay was $155 -- and I snapped that one up as soon as I saw it, because that was an oddly low price. Typically the lowest you're likely to see them is around $300. A lot of sellers ask $600 or more, especially if they have the packaging in good condition. I have no idea whether they sell at that price, but I can say that generally speaking I don't recall a lot of Lapis Townsends being relisted, month after month after month.

Definitely check sold listings on eBay - I agree with Mr Thoth they are pretty rare.

Congratulations! You are no longer "sumgai" to me. I remember that pen! At the time I chose restraint. It is fine to know it went to where it belonged and is appreciated.

I also remember when all the precious stones were blown out by Cross. I limited myself to a jade RB.

I disdained FPs back then, based on childhood experiences of frustrating bad pens.
