Hi,

Tomorrow I'm going to do it... buy the Lamy Safari 2016, but I have a slight problem. The pens in displays are fakes. Well, a friend of mine told me that stores where I live put in counterfeits as the display, and give you the real deal. At least that's what he tells me. Do you think this is true? Also, are Chinese pen makers ALREADY making fakes?! :o

I wouldn't be surprised if they were

One way to tell a fake from a genuine Safari is to check whether the holes in the barrel line up perfectly with the slots in the section when closed (with the carton ring removed) .....

this may help too .... http://www.deskoflori.com/blog/2015/4/16/my-experience-with-a-counterfeit-lamy-safari

If you buy from a reputable seller you can avoid all this "is it fake" nonsense... Yes there are fake Safari's out there, and yes if you snagged a cheap one off Ebay / Amazon there is a good chance it is fake, but just buy one from a good seller in Europe and you are getting a genuine one at a smashing price with great service - even with shipping it is cheaper to buy from AB or FP pens.

Are you saying that the misaligned ink windows on the Safari's that I saw were just because of the cardboard ring?! Ok, now things are making sense

There is a forum meant for Lamy pens, you know :)

I read the spot-the-fake with my Safari Gray Matte in-hand. V relieved to be the owner of an actual. Bought it through a UK dealer and would have been amazed if it weren't.

But what was truly amazing was the closeness of the fake to the original. Given the lead time for the new 20 dollar biil, I expect a rash of Tubman take-offs.
