The diagram is showing that for the same nib shape, you can roll either gold or steel. (So it's not meant to show both being rolled at the same time.) The gold stock is short and thick, the steel stock is longer and thinner.

In the Material Technology page it explains that the different stock thicknesses are because steel work hardens quicker, so needs a sheet that's closer in thickness to the final nib thickness.

Thanks... you got it... and you get top marks

And thanks corgicoupe, I will rewrite this part to make it clear.

In case anyone is interested...

At the moment, I am writing a bit of philosophy on one of my other blogs, called SMILE.

In the footer you find a collection of my latest publications, there.

Enjoy

Chalked it up and found I have almost 40 years writing with cursive italic. To me, the secret is practice.

Started out with Fred Eager's Beautiful Handwriting the Italic Way. There are other books that give a good intro to italics, often to be had for little or no money on Amazon. The pinned threads in the Broad (or Edged) Pen section list a large number of resources on italic.

I prefer a hard-copy for studying handwriting but there are many good examples and books on the 'net. Just google "cursive italic handwriting" and see what comes up.

Best of luck,

Yours,
Randal

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?
