HOW YOU CAN MAKE A FOLDABLE PEN REST

 

This is what you can do with one of your standard calling cards ( name cards)

 

What you need ...

a cutter knife

a straight edge

one name card

a cutting mat

STEP 1

as shown in the pic above, mark out the dead centre of the card (the intersection of the diagonals.)

 

STEP 2

Further mark out these lines as you can see.

ie, divide the long edge into 4 equal parts

and the short edge into halves

STEP 3

Mark a diamond in the centre of the card.

The diamond is 20mm x 30mm as shown in the pic below

STEP 4

Mark the lines that look like a '7' lying on its side.

They are at both short ends of the card

STEP 5

Cut the card in the following manner :

a) red lines - cut right through the card where you see the red lines

b ) green lines - cut the surface of the card along the green lines but not all the way through.

This half-cut is to make the card fold easier and crisply where its supposed to.

STEP 6

You can punch out the diamond like this

STEP 7

Fold the card along the diamond

You will notice by now how the card folds crisply becos of the scored cuts.

STEP 8

Continue folding the other left and right parts

STEP 9

Flip the thing over and slide the the two ends to interlock

now fully interlocked

STEP 10 - DONE !

It will look like this ...

DISCLAIMER :

Its paper lightweight, so if you are outdoors with strong enough wind to blow things off the table, it may just happen !

But you can find your own solutions to that.

Great! Now I know what to do with all those left-over business cards...

Nice! the diagram made it precise and made it reusable. I would mostly just fold a visiting card in half and cut a small valley in the middle.
