Montblanc Poa 2016 Peggy Guggenheim

I really want to make a joke, but am too scared. Nah! Here it goes. What if the 2016 Writer's Edition is Orwell? Your pen comes with a built in microphone in the cap that automatically transmits to MB. The clip is in the shape of a curly pig's tail. The gold nib has the face of Big Brother engraved. The barrel will have "Big Brother is Watching You" written over and over again to remind you not to discuss anything that isn't sanctioned.

This could depend on the criteria they set down for the attendees. I have been to events (not FP related) where it is explicitly forbidden to take pics or share any of the info you have seen there

Yes indeed, and unfortunately it is way too easy these days to take pictures even when asked not to do so, with every cell phone being equipped with a camera these days, and leaks from pictures taken that way, and of copyrighted material, can indeed seriously damage FPN.

We are talking with Montblanc to see what the options are, however. We'll just have to wait and see what could come from this.

Warm regards, Wim

It isn't about the discussion, however, it is about copyright :).

Which unfortunately will not be. But isn't there another thread to talk about the next Writer's Edition?

How strange, yesterday I was in a Montblanc boutique and they offered me this pen. That means the pen is already on sale.
I think Montblanc make a mistake by not allowing talks about their products in a fountain pen forum.

That said, I really don't like this pen...

I received the invite as well. I rather liked the look of the pens.

They can't complain about 'leaks' as they show and promote their pens for several weeks already.

For me as well, it is more kitsch than art, but why argue about taste.

It's a pointless debate. It's Wim's playground & he sets the rules.

MB seem to have this FPN under control, but not the rest of the Internet

Thankfully.

It's Shakespeare. I recall a thread that had some discussion. Hard to look for it on my phone, but not too long ago.

Quite true, they can even ask you to sign an NDA for really interesting stuff too.

However, I don't expect MB or their agents would ask customers attending their functions to observe no photo, no discussion rule.

For those who received such invitation, and if you're going, can you please report back whether there were any such restriction at the door or during the event.

Best regards, Kai

Well, I suppose this event to unveil the Guggenheim has not happened yet and folks here who received an invitation can experience the event themselves and report back whether there were any such rules.

P.S. Back in 2011 Axel organised a factory visit and I was there. The lady did ask us to not take photos inside the factory and put our cameras in the cloakroom. So there you go. They did ask that. However, in a unveiling event?

Let's wait and see.

Best regards, Kai

I am certainly not saying an unveiling event, at least, I don't really know these events.

I do know that a while back a cell phone picture was posted here on FPN of some 3 months later to be released LE, where people were not supposed to take pictures, and after it was posted here, it went viral :). It could actually be traced right back to FPN. :) Montblanc was very sporting about it, actually. But we obviously would prefer those things not to happen :).

Maybe we should start a new forum here on FPN. A pen rumours forum <ROFL>.

It seems to me that stirring up rumours and creating controversy could be a fairly effective advertising technique.

What ? ... Wait ? ... Do you mean it has to do with the way some people have been received by Montblanc a few days ago ? ... : https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/306667-visit-to-montblanc-17-18-march-2016-introduction/?p=3600743

I just can't beleive it ! ... :o

How does a brand expect for secrecy to be kept, if they send catalogues, with pictures of the pen supposedly to be kept secret, and asks the sellers to show it, ergo promote it, to clients?????

There must be a logic explanation to this illogical attitude, but I confess I cannot see it.

Surely if you post the links to the sites showing the pictures, there is nothing to be said.

The other sites posted the picture, not FPN.

Just post the links until de "official disclosure" .

I also saw the pen: sad, sad, sad pen. I am sure Peggy must be enraging in her grave.

I can't help but feel that we're being played the fool. The biggest guy in the room (i.e. FPN) is an easy target for what actually appears to be Montblanc's issue regarding their marketing secrecy. I fully understand that they have an absolute right to keep their product under wraps until its official launch. But we aren't talking rocket science here; they could easily control this by making an announcement a month in advance of release, then after this sending out the marketing materials, co-ordinating the invited launch's and product to shelves. However, once they have made an announcement and let the marketing materials out then they have to accept the world we live in today - it will hit the internet; but this is what marketing materials are for: distribution. This current product is plastered over the internet already; it was announced some time ago and the marketing materials are on hand to be seen in boutiques and some even have the product itself for sale. Now if all of this shouldn't have happened that is an issue for Montblanc in terms of how they time their releases and how they manage it, as it is, they seem to be targeting the largest player in the pen forum world and restricting it instead of sorting out their own inability to roll out a product properly. But their approach to FPN doesn't seem to make any sense. We are essentially their largest free advertiser and there is an element of biting the hand that feeds them. Initially it may get people talking; but in the long term I can only see one result - significant damage to the brand name.

I went to the collection launch event in London last year. No restrictions & I took quite a few pictures. On one occasion a staff member held a pen for me to photograph.

Conversely, when we have visitors to our site we ask them to leave phones in the meeting room when they go on the plant tour, precisely to protect our IP.

Thanks Wim,

The important thing is that if Montblanc hosted an event and did NOT tell attendees to restrict photography, then if someone posted pictures of the "yet to be released but already shown to preferred customer" merchantise, they can only blame themselves for the said photos to go viral on the Internet. This is, to be honest, not a copyright question. The copyright laws are quite clear - the photographer holds the copyright of the photos. As long as people are not posting Montblanc's own photos, they have no leg to stand on about claiming copyright breach.

Anyway, I don't see how a pen rumour forum will work within the auspice of FPN. I believe someone working in the legal profession with good knowledge of copyright, libel and IP laws should host this kind of forum instead of laymen who gets easily bullied by vested interests.

Best regards, Kai
