Snorkel Colored Grip Sections

I attempted to get this question answered on a different site to no avail, so I figured I'd try here.

 

The original thread was about self-colored grip sections on the later, more "rare" Snorkels. (http://fountainpenboard.com/forum/index.php?/topic/6943-snorkels-with-self-colored-sections/)

 

My understanding is that periwinkle, fern green, sage green, buckskin tan, vermillion, and the "new" burgundy did have grip sections that were colored, but peacock blue and mandarin do not (are black instead). Not sure about fiesta red. Correct me if any of these statements are wrong.

 

My question is whether any of the later production standard colors (pastel blue, green, gray) switched to a colored section too. Actually, I don't know whether they were still produced when the new colors were released. In other words, is a green snorkel with a green section always going to be either sage or fern, and is a blue snorkel with a blue section always going to be periwinkle?

The standard colors came with matching sections. The answer to you last question is no, it's not that easy ....unfortunately.

Ok, thanks for the response. That is unfortunate. Was looking at a Snorkel set from a respectable seller listed as Sage Green in mint condition (has the green grip section), but it looks too close to pastel green to me. Oh well.

Your original description is essentially correct. The only caveat is that some of the post '56 colors may have come factory with black sections. I can state that I've never seen mandarin or peacock with matching sections. I believe the fiestas are matching - my sentinel is. To your last question is probably as old burgundy has black sections and new burgundy has matching. The early catalogs show black sections only and there isn't any catalogs with the new colors but there are ads. The first ad showing a colored section is November 1957. I have grey snorkels with grey sections and blue with blue. I'm not sure about a pastel green but, I bet it follows that pattern. I have bought a pastel blue thinking it was a peacock blue - bad EBay picture.

Having the same dilemma right now, but hey, maybe I'll get lucky. Actually came across a listing for a "blue" Snorkel with individual pictures that look like pastel blue, peacock blue, and periwinkle all in the same photo set.

 

Though, I suppose I can't have too high expectations when I come across listings for a "Snorkel" that's actually a Touchdown TM in a Snorkel box, and the seller notes it "needs a new cartridge." Seriously. Somehow he correctly identified it a Statesman, though. Go figure.

Yep, I have three fiesta clippers -- all have black sections.
