Thanks for all the information provided above to help explain what the pen first shown above is – or might be…

It is fairly certain that the pen was made in the USA c. 1964-65 for the French market. What is not known is whether the pen (or one just like it) was ever sold in France? Perhaps it was sort of a concept pen to see how the required hallmarks would “fit” with the then existing design. Who knows…?

A rather surprising number of knowledgeable Parker pen people can’t recall ever seeing an 18k Made in U.S.A. nib – but then it is was over 50 years ago…

The box is perhaps just as odd as the pen – it is similar to a very early clam shell 75 box – but is not marked with any number or country of origin – just a Parker arrow halo on the lid and Parker 75 & “Argent Massif Cisele” on the inside.

Sometime to help understand how a pen was made it is helpful to look at the tools used to make parts or works in progress.

  1. Parker 51 nib blank stamped England;
  2. Imprint die for “0” reference for section ring or collar – note uneven lines – not seen on any production pens… the “0” reference had even lines while no “0” were even lines…
  3. Imprint die for PARKER & “Halo Arrow” symbol;
  4. Sterling Silver “blanks” being “Drawn” into shape of barrel or cap;
  5. Blank un-stamped 51 nib;
  6. Evolution of 75 nibs being stamped and shaped;
  7. Parker 180 nibs being stamped out of a sheet of gold; and
  8. One-half of a die to stamp out a Parker arrow clip.
