Note the filler does mechanism not has to be necessarily an 139, any 138, 136, 134 or even 132 filler can be used.

Thanks for such an informative post Francis. I've often wondered about the similarities of these models when I repair them. Now it's confirmed. I suppose is a manufacturing efficiency, huh?

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

Hi niksch !

The telescopic fillers of the 13X range are effectively completely interchangeable.

However the filling knob and piston housing remain dedicated to the size.

Using for example an 134 filler mechanism on an 138, this implies one has to swap the piston housing and the filling knob, which - as you surely know - is not always an easy task !

On the 14X range of pens the fillers are also interchangeable.

Here only the filling knob has to be swapped and - when f.e. using an 144 filler on an 149 - the gold plated spacer ring between the filling knob and the barrel is to be made larger , coping with the smaller diameter of the 144 piston housing

Given the fact that the 14X fillers are much more maintenance friendly, i even already installed a 144 filler in a 139 demonstrator I've made.

In this case the new made piston housing logically needs to be made specially to receive the 14X filler .

As you surely experienced, disassembling the filling knob from a 13X filler is a real pain in the neck, while on the 14X fillers one can screw the filling knob off using a special fork tool which engages in the nut slots internally in the filling knob.

Francis, seriously: this teasing has gone long enough! Please make this a new model for CONID, so that those of us who long for a 139 or at least a Hemingway can have the pleasure of this great design.

Oh I totally agree! This would be fantastic.

As the Dumas is, relatively, cheaper. Would it be simpler to make a centre section for this pen in the colour/transparency of choice?

Yes, but why destroy a nice pen unless the barrel was broken. You can get a custom barrel from a number of makers or Brad Torelli can make you a 139 replica with a telescoping piston. This is what I am planning for. He does not do the replica MB stars any longer though.

I understand that this is an old thread, but I am looking to add a 139 or a replica to my collection. @zaddick what would be the best way to reach Brad to have a 139 replica commissioned? Appreciate any help in advance.
