Did I Mess Up My Parker 25?

Some time ago I received my very first pen set: a Parker RB and FP.

The fountain pen has become my EDC pen. Love that thing.

But, I also really like the rollerball pen. I got a Parker refill for it - Quink, Fine - and put it in there a week ago or so.

It writes well and no real issues.

Today I received some other rollerball refills that I really wanted to try out on it but...as I open up the pen and attempt to remove the refill cartridge..it is STUCK. I mean stuck as in I have taken a plier and tried to twist it as I hold onto the pen - stuck.

Now, I am a newbie to pens...I think I remember that I twisted/screwed the refill in but I can't remember...

Should I pull it straight out or (if held as in the picture below) twist it downwards?

I really, really hope that darn thing is not stuck there permanently as I really like the pen and don't want to damage it :(

ANY help greatly appreciated....

I would try putting the exposed metal portion of the refill in an ice-water bath for 20-30 minutes and see if the cold might shrink the refill enough to let you pull it out. Or you could try heating the barrel to expand it. Another possibility might be to use a nib block and try to just knock the refill out by gently hammering the ball point. This is probably a desperation technique to be tried when all else has failed, however, because there is a risk of destroying the barrel.

I can tell you that there are no threads inside the barrel so you don't have to worry about any problems from just forcing it straight out.

It seems to me that I remember that there was a felt-tip version of the pen which had a slightly smaller inside diameter barrel than the ballpoint. I think that's the explanation I was given for the ballpoint and rollerball refills not fitting into my pen. In any event, I never got a refill to go in far enough to get stuck like yours so I never had to worry about extracting it. I wish you luck in getting it apart!

I finally found that a Pilot G2 gel refill works quite well in my pen. It has an all plastic body and it's thinner than any of the metal refills that I've seen. It just looks a little funny with the skinny ball point sticking out of the large opening in the barrel, but it works quite well.

STOP! NEVER heat the barrel, it 's soft plastic and it will discolorate.!

Soak in water, try soap as a lubricant. The refill is to be put in and pulled out straight away, no screwing or twisting. Soak a week if necessary.

Knocking out is the last resort, but first empty the barrel. It seems the plastic cap of the refill is missing. Then screw the plastic section on the metal barrel and then softly hammer the refill down. There will be room enough to move a few millimetres. Even better is to use the metal barrel of a fountain pen, it provides more room. This way you run the least risk of damabing the plastic section.
