Montblanc Rose Gold

Wim, were you ever able to get the answer??

I am wondering also whether the Rose Gold Nib is essentially a yellow gold nib with Rose Gold Plating which is what I suspect because of the R&D and cost issues discussed above. Even if only plated with Rose Gold instead of a solid piece of Rose Gold, the real question is: is the plating susceptible to flaking or corrosion or other damage?

From Mike Masuyama:

He is unwilling to work on Rose Gold nibs as they DO FLAKE if they come into contact with a grinder (for nib modification). Under normal use i doubt it... although some threads do seem to show it could happen.

IF it were to happen i would assume MB to pick up the bill as it would be on them.

Either way, i use my rose gold pen daily (146 90th ed)

Haven't had any flaking happen on my rose gold nibs. There has been rose gold flaking on one of my pens. It has flaked off my Classique 90 Years Special Edition Solitaire right around the section collar where the nib joins the pen. It is a bad design on Montblanc's part as I've seen this particular gold ring have issues because of the moisture exposure it has when the pen is capped. But no issues ever with rose gold on the nibs of my MB pens

I think the 90th are the only contender for the title 'solid rose gold' nib. The jury is probably still out until Wim gets an answer from MB. The rest are (surely) plated 585 gold nibs? As is all the trim, acknowledged by MB in the publicity.

Can't find the earlier link I quoted, but it's out there somewhere.

Had a 90th 146, for a while. I liked the nib, but didn't keep it. It was a medium and didn't suit me - and I didn't get it modified because it's something of a 'special' nib. Bought and sold it for roughly the same price as a regular 146.

Enjoy.

Hello,

since this is an old thread: are there any updates on the the current production 149 red gold nibs? Can someone confirm they are solid red gold and not plated?

I even think there were 2 versions. Red gold and Rose gold.

I think "red gold" is Montblanc lingo for "rose gold".

Are you sure? I see listings for Rose Gold pens on Montblanc's site.  Technically, there are three shades, 3N (pink gold), 4N (rose gold), 5N (red gold) that brands and customers use interchangeably.  There is a perceptible difference in shades.  I have Montblanc cufflinks that are 5N red gold, and they are noticebly darker hue than my pens or a previous Montblanc watch that were described as 4N rose gold.

No, actually I'm not sure. Thank you for pointing that out!

Still, the question remains, about pen nibs, whether what Montblanc declares to be "solid gold" is actually "solid red gold" or "solid (yellow) gold, red-gold plated".
