New Fountain Pen Blog By A Lefty

first time I post here, long time reader though...

So I was watching a video Q and A the other day and I realised that there's a lot of misconception about lefties in the fountain pen world... So it got me thinking, I have been interested in putting up a video blog about fountain pens from my lefty perspective... So here I am, working on this blog and I thought I should ask the community what would you like to see on that blog other then pen reviews and such...

Not a lefty but definitely interested in hearing the perspective of a lefty, especially given that yes, there are lots of misconceptions about writing lefty. One of my sisters is a lefty and every now and then I forget when we go out for dinner until I sit down and she goes, "Out of my seat!"

 

All I know is that some lefties can benefit from writing with a right foot oblique nib if their nib touches paper at 45 degree angle (?)

I'm *not* a lefty (I'm so right-handed I'm *also* right-FOOTED!) but my husband was initially ambidextrous. It wasn't until he broke his wrist in 3rd grade that he became predominantly right-handed -- up till that point he apparently would use whichever hand was closer to the pencil or crayon at the time -- and then switch hands when the first hand got tired.... Mind you, he's ALSO dyslexic....

I have a friend that used to teach calligraphy classes, and he was good at teaching lefties (don't think he was himself, but I don't remember for certain). Basically, it involved not only turning the angle of the paper or parchment, but it was more of a case of drawing (as opposed to writing) the letters. But I'll admit I don't see how that would work for "normal" cursive handwriting.

This lefty has learned to underwrite about 1-6" below the ink depending on the pen.

 

The only trouble is for left-footed oblique nibs, which require a semi-rotation against my natural pen grip in order to hit the sweet spot.

 

haven't tried a right-footed one just yet.

Even though I am a left-handed underwriter, I have a natural tendency to rotate my pen outward (counter-clockwise), so the left-footed obliques work great for me. If you tend to rotate your pen inward, a right-footed oblique is worth a try.

trippy.... turning it counter and naturally pulling it across the page... i can't draw any ink out of a regular nib that way...

 

my acquisition phase is at low tide so I don't foresee going out of my way for a RFO soon...

I agree, left-footed are tricky... It's about the only thing in pens I haven't really explore... Right-footed ones though, are awesome, I have a Brause set... It's perfect to do calligraphy and have the line variation on the same side as a right hander... But honestly I prefer to explore the weirdness of the lefty than trying to emulate a righty...
