Caramel - Papier Plume

Papier Plume is s stationery shop situated in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans. The company began its business in 2001 however the shop was opened in 2007. From what I see on google maps the shop looks quite nice.

Some time ago the company started to offer fountain pen inks. They're supposed to be hand poured and bottled right in the shop. The inks are water based and described as french inks (imported? anyone knows french private label maker?). At the moment the inks are available in 15 colors and are sold in three bottles: small (15 ml), medium (30 ml), big (50 ml):

I've received samples of fourteen colors and I'll review them soon. The full line consists of:

  1. Black
  2. Burgundy
  3. Denim
  4. Forest Green
  5. Forget-me-not Blue
  6. Lover's Red
  7. Ivy Green
  8. Midnight Blue
  9. Moss Green
  10. Oyster Grey
  11. Peacock Blue
  12. Pecan
  13. Red
  14. Violet

Caramel isn't the best ink in the line. It has no water resistance, the saturation is average. It looks good when used ib broad/wet nibs on absorbent papers (Leuchtturm) and on Tomoe (everything looks good on Tomoe) but in finer nibs and on optic papers the line is flat and boring. If, like me, you use mainly broader nibs you'll enjoy the ink and the shading though ;)

Thanks for the review. I wasn't familiar with this brand.

I like the color, but it seems to be a bit light on the page. Think I'll stick with Diamine Ochre or Terra Cotta.

Thanks for posting another great review. This reminds me of Callifolio Inti. The color just doesn't really appeal to me, but has its place.

A sample just arrived and in my Parker 51, it is extremely "light." Going to put it in the sunlight to see if it fades quickly. C. S.

The ink was "extremely light" because of a flow problem with my pen! After I realized that and made the correction, I really like the ink. It is "growing on me." When it starts "talking to me," I will buy a full bottle, but first, I must decide if it will fade over time. Not really sure how to do that. I have a sample now in the sunlight. If it does not really fade, I may buy a bottle.

I continue to be very pleased with this ink. I put some in a slightly larger (more broad) nib pen this morning, and like it even more.

Fading---- After almost three months in the sun, this ink is holding up really well! Really glad, because I love the ink! C. S.

:lticaptd: nice to see I'm not alone with those voices... I thought I'd try to get my own realty show as the "Ink Whisperer"... This Caramel not only spoke but also sent me a caramel colored vision. Love these golden yellowy browns. The shading on this one is very nice using a semi-wide to wide italic nib. It hasn't usurped Diamine Golden Brown (thus far) as my favorite go to, but this one is definitely interesting.

I do wish it was a little darker. I tried a sample of this today. I have it in a medium nib. The color is caramel on the darker areas. It was darker on Whitelines, and Tomoe River paper. I found the ink to be a little on the dry side, and it could use more lubrication. I think I will test it before long in a broad cursive italic. I have tried 4 of Papier Plume inks so far. My favorite two are Pecan and Oyster Grey.
