Chicago Is Closing Down Another Pen Shop

Chicago has never been a too-friendly city for fountain pen users. Just this year (I think... I pass in front of it every day and my memory's non too clear), Glibertson & Clybourn sold its last pen and closed down permanently.

Now, Paradise Pens in Oak Brook is closing. So any Chicagoans, get there before April 1st, because everything must go!

Tes rires retroussés comme à son bord la rose,

Effacent mon dépit de ta métamorphose;

Tu t'éveilles, alors le rêve est oublié.

I got some good buys on ink, pen cases, and on Paradise brand pens when they closed their Bridgewater, NJ store about a year ago. See if you can make the best of a bad situation!

Is there still a pen shop in the ground floor of the Monadnock Building? (I lived in Chicago in the 1990s.)

I stopped by Paradise Pen in Oak Brook this afternoon, the pen and inks I bought were marked 50% off (Padrino Trend in turquoise, and two Paradise brand inks - black/blue and vineyard burgundy).

Supposedly Rolex wants the space, and the owners of the pen store decided to sell rather than move?

I doubt that the space has been "sold" as all of the retail space in the Oak Brook Mall is leased. There is a property management firm that takes care of it all, so I'd bet that there was an issue of over-all profitability versus rent and expenses.

I'm not surprised. I've been to that store several times and never found anything that I felt was worth their price.
