Peacock Blue - Papier Plume

Papier Plume is s stationery shop situated in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans. The company began its business in 2001 however the shop was opened in 2007. From what I see on google maps the shop looks quite nice.

Some time ago the company started to offer fountain pen inks. They're supposed to be hand poured and bottled right in the shop. The inks are water based and described as french inks (imported? anyone knows french private label maker?). At the moment the inks are available in 15 colors and are sold in three bottles: small (15 ml), medium (30 ml), big (50 ml):

I've received samples of fourteen colors and I'll review them soon. The full line consists of:

  1. Black
  2. Burgundy
  3. Denim
  4. Forest Green
  5. Forget-me-not Blue
  6. Lover's Red
  7. Ivy Green
  8. Midnight Blue
  9. Moss Green
  10. Oyster Grey
  11. Peacock Blue
  12. Pecan
  13. Red
  14. Violet

Peacock Blue can be described as bright blue turquoise that doesn't lean too much toward green. I don't have a sample of legendary Sheaffer's peacock Blue but I think it would be interesting to compare the two. The ink behaves well on variety of papers, even on MOleskine that - to me - is a synonime of bad quality, FP unfriendly paper ;)

I found the color to be lighter and brighter than the MB Balzac LE and KWZI Turquoise. It was pretty fast-drying on the papers I used. It wasn't a bad color at all.

As a lover of blue leaning turquoise inks (I love Waterman South Seas and Callifolio Bleu Pacifique), I like this. But this does not seem to have the red or violet sheen that some do. It does seem to shade a bit though.

Thanks for the great review!

To my eye, this is pretty close to Skrip Peacock Blue, but I don't have it in front of me at the moment.

The Papier Plume color is beautiful at any rate.

It would be interesting to see it compared to Diamine Turquoise, which is pretty close to the vintage Skrip Peacock I have.

Thanks as always for the review.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

My order from Papier Plume arrived today, so I was able to compare their Peacock Blue to Skrip.

On Rhodia grid paper, the two are very, very close- possibly close enough that I wouldn't worry about trying to track down more Skrip PB when I run out of my current stash.

I won't be able to post the comparison until over the weekend, but I'll get a photo posted when I can.

Best Regards, greg

@gregamckinney - it would be great to see the comparison :) Maybe Peacock Blue fans would find worthy substitute for their beloved ink.

This is not an ideal comparison, but it is what I could do. Each side (top and bottom shows a line drawn with the cut end of a qtip (the cardboard end,) a swab with one pass, and a swab with two passes.

Skrip is on top; Papier Plume is on the bottom. The lighting is not as even as I would have liked, which makes the two colors look less similar than they show in real life. Nonetheless, I think this image shows how close they are.

Papier Plume ink is not inexpensive, but it is sure less expensive than what vintage Skrip Peacock Blue goes for if and when you can find it. So, this may be a nice alternative.
