Turquoise - Sheaffer

Sheaffer first introduced its Skript ink back in 1922. The Skrip was sold in glass bottles with metal lids. In the 1990 Sheaffer closed its plant that made ink in the USA. In 2002 company started to make their inks in Slovenia and to sell it in cone-shaped bottle. Personally I dislike this bottle - it's relatively low and gets wider at the base. This is great for stability of the bottle on the desk, but means that more ink sits in the bottom of the bottle than at the upper portion of the bottle. It may cause problems for those of us whoo use pens with big nibs - as the ink goes down, it becomes impossible to submerge the nib in the ink and get a hearthy fill.

Anyway at the moment Sheaffer (now part of the Cross, so who knows what'll happen) offers eight inks:

1. Blue-Black
2. Blue
3. Black
4. Brown
5. Green
6. Purple
7. Red
8. Turquoise

 

It seems Sheaffer Turquoise recipe was changed few times. The flow is consistent and rather good. It's not darkest or most saturated blue turquoise. Personally I dislike the color.

It's a very nice ink, it flows well, and shades very well, too. Modern Sheaffer inks are low-maintenance, but appear somewhat watery compared to the super saturated inks people love these days. My favorite modern Sheaffer ink is Blue-Black, followed by this Turquoise. Great review, as always.

I'm with akustyk on this ink. Your comprehensive set of photographs show a fairly broad range of shading, and it's a low-maintenance ink that is reasonably priced. I love the hint of a halo-like edge on the darker letters.

If this is what used to be Peacock Blue I have a bottle and just love it. Lovely cheerful color with nice shading. Bottle is the old style - wide, glass with an inkwell along one side, metal lid, very handy.

Good to see there are Sheaffer fans around Personally I enjoy their Red a lot. The rest of the line though does nothing to me.

This is my favorite ink for daily use, nice color, some shading and very affordable. At least with my Sheaffer pens (Triumph Imperial, Snorkel and 330 Quasi-imperial) it looks a bit darker than your photos, but it could be just a difference in monitor adjustments.

 

I have to agree that the Skrip red is the nicest of them, unfortunately not adequate for my work environment as people immediately associate it with something wrong or that I'm pointing an error. Purple is the one I really dislike.

 

I'd like to remember that Sheaffer also have pink, orange and gold (yellow) inks available, but only in cartridge form.
