Matching Fp For My 163 Rb

After I graduated from college in the early 90's, I accepted a job offer from Andersen Consulting. Along with my new job I got an American Express card, a Delta Skymiles account, and since we did consulting for clients face to face, a Mont Blanc Miesterstuck 163 burgundy rollerball. I used the pen up until I left AC; after which I thought I had lost it. Fast forward to late last year when I eventually found it in a box that had been in storage. It still writes well, after installing a new refill.

The box the RB came in has a sticker on one end with Meisterstuck 163R 13651 Rollerball, plus a barcode and "Made In Germany". There is a sticker on the bottom with "1851". The warranty card in the booklet is not filled out with the Model No., Clip Ring No., or Date of Purchase. Should it have been? I cannot make out the number on the clip ring. I will have to dig up a magnifying glass and see if I can make it out.

Now I would like to get a matching fountain pen to go with the RB. Based on this post https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/197516-montblanc-numbering-system-19902000/ it looks like I am looking for a 144 (Meisterstuck Classique) fountain pen. The MB website only shows it in black. Do they still make the burgundy model? Or am I going to have to go the used market route?

What price range should I expect on a used 144 FP? I have looked on eBay and prices seem to be all over the place. And I am worried about getting a fake on eBay.

The Atlanta Pen Show is coming up in April and i will probably go to that to look around.

The only other FPs I have are Pilot Metropolitan, Lamy AL-star and a Cross Bailey ($20 at Office Depot).

Pens: MB 163R, MB 164R, MB 165R, MB 144R, Pilot Metropolitan, Lamy AL-Star, Jinhao x450, Jinhao x750, and Cross Bailey (hey - $20 at OfficeMax, couldn't pass it up).

Yes, the 144 is what you are looking for. To be precise, it should be 144R. It is discontinued. Used ones can be found in the classified here or on different auction sites. You can find new old stock (NOS) ones when they come up for sale. Just be patient. I suggest you search ebay 'sold' listings to get an idea of how much the pen goes given their respective conditions.

Don't worry about the booklet, sometimes they aren't filled by the retailer.

+1 on the Meisterstuck 144R. I have one myself, which is part of the following set: 164R, 163R and 144R. I love looking at them!

Check out martiniauctions.com I have a Bordeaux 144 and really like it. Some people disparage the slip cap but it seals very well; never a hard start even after sitting unused, inked, for over a month. Not bad in my book.

Thanks for all the information. On ebay it looks like used ones go for 150 - 200, new in box for 300+.

Great! - Now I am going to have to get a ballpoint (164) and a mechanical (165) pencil in addition to the 144 to round out the collection. :)

Couldn't agree more, sadly I still haven't been able to find a 165R to fully complete the set. Oh well, it will come someday.

Good luck on finding that 144, patience is key here!

You could post a "want to buy" on the Classifieds here. Also check frequently with penboard.de and the other sources mentioned. At the Atlanta show, seek out Cliff Harrington or Osman Sümer.
