Blue / Black - Pelikan 4001

I love these dusty, subtle blues. My bottle is arriving next month.
I use a old, very wet (Flex) pen which Salix (a supposedly dry ink) plays perfectly with, so I'll looking forward for a similarly pleasurable experience with this ink.

The Magnetic blue, Califolio blue-blacks and also the Faber Castell one also look very promising.

Is this an iron gall ink? I seem to have it in my head that it once was IG.

Yes; Pelikan comment on their website that 4001 Blue-Black does contain Iron Gall. It's a wonderful ink.

I've inquired with Pelikan in Germany whether the 4001 b/b short carts contain the exact same ink as the bottles. The answer was yes. If the bottled version of this fabulous ink indeed has an IG component, then the carts will also contain iron gall ink.

Is there any other IG ink that's sold in international cartridges, or is the Pelican b/b the only one?

As for the box colour: same ink, IG, just revised and updated packaging.

FWIW: This is the only source I found to buy that in the US.

https://www.seitz-global.us/office/ink/bottled-ink/pelikan-ink/

No affiliation, I just like these guys. Great prices, free shipping after a very low spending threshold.

Amazon lists the 60ml bottle but the reviews are ... not favorable (as in : bad and old batch, coming from a single merchant in Japan)

I'll see what happens with the bottle I ordered from Japan. I saw those reviews, but figured, what the hey, I'll only be out $12. I've saved the seller you referenced. Thank you for that.

OK, this may be a silly question, but in the checkout portion, where I enter my mailing address, the site wants the street address to be of this form:

street-name house-number

instead of the form normally used in the US:

house-number street-name

Will that confuse the post office here or will it still work?

Thanks!

Addresses are written like that in Germany (Street and then number) as in many other places in continental Europe. The online forms of the German Post and DHL do not give an option to write addresses in a British/American way. In my experience this is never a problem, it is clear that it is street and house number and USPS always delivers the items, as does the German Post for adresses written the American way.

Other than that, Pelikan 4001 Blue Black is a classic, traditional and unsurpassed blue black with a bit of iron gall. It has very good water resistance and is as permanent as it needs it to be for most jobs. In my opinion it is miserable in a dry pen and a pleasure in a wet one. The R&K Salix is close to its properties (with a bit more blue in it) and a touch wetter. Have one pen inked with each of them.

FPlover thank you so much for the rapid response. I have two bottles queued up in my shopping cart. I have been wanting to purchase this exact ink and had read in several places that Pelikan no longer sold it in the US for some reason.

I appreciate your time and trouble.

Accoridng to Pelikan's Swedish website, 4001 blue/black contains a low concentration of iron-gall.

How is the colour compared to Kobe Nagasawa #23 Nagata Blue? On my screen it looks fairly close.

I recently tried an old bottle of the Pelikan blue-black, maybe ten years old. I put it aside back in the days for a reason. When it dried it always turned into green-blue-black. I've read some postings here that this ink seems to change from time to time. The intensity of the green in my case depends on the paper, on copy paper it's most intense, some kind of dark grey-green. Did not like it and it was however almost gone, so I discharged the remaining ink.

Yes; Pelikan comment on their website that 4001 Blue-Black does contain Iron Gall. It's a wonderful ink.

Does it mean that it might have some maintenance issues with pens?
