Violet - Pelikan 4001®

The 4001 ink is a well-established brand by Pelikan from the very first beginning of the company. It was first mentioned in a price-list from 1897 and proved its worth within all the years. Ink 4001 was registered as a number only, during years there was plenty of colors on the market. However in recent years the line didn't change at all. Happily Pelikan decided to invest not only in Edelstein line but also in 4001 (much cheaper) line and introduced new ink (Dark Green) in january 2016. You may find it interesting that Pelikan 4001 are the only inks that can be bought practically in every B&M store in Poland.

At the moment the line consists of

  1. Blue - Black
  2. Brilliant Black
  3. Brilliant Brown
  4. Brilliant Green
  5. Brilliant Red
  6. Dark Green
  7. Pink (cartridges only)
  8. Royal Blue
  9. Turquoise
  10. Violet
Pelikan 4001 Violet behaves well and is affordable, but there is no depth to the color and there are so many other great purples out there that I'm not sure if it's the best choice. It won't disappoint but the color doesn't really inspire.

Great review as ever and I use this a lot; at present in a Pelikan M200 F. A great shade.

Thanks for the review. Technically I have this ink, but mine seems rather more pink - to the point where I have my "purples" inked up this week, and 4001 Violet is not amongst them.

Mine was very similar in colour to the samples shown in this review. Great as always. It's nice that you review also the cheaper and more boring inks. I have a few bottles of Pelikan 4001 inks, but I don't like them unless I make my own mix. I've got rid of them :)

I really love MB Lavender Purple, it's my favourite purple. I haven't tried the famous Poussiere de Lune, but I prefer more saturated colours.

I havent used this ink since the 80s... Just bought some cartridges, will try it in the next few weeks.

It seems a lot darker than I rememeber, it tended to be more vibrant (it maybe just my memory)

Too red/pink. Thanks for the review!

This is the ink my granddaughters choose for me to fill their cartridges, so I can't be without it.

Thanks for your reviews. Always happy when you post a new one.

I am happy to see this coverage, because other reviews have made the ink look very pink--which could be a disappointment to someone who bought the ink expecting that color.

I get a lot of compliments when I have this color inked in a pen. I wasn't sure how I felt about it, but it catches the eye for sure. (It looks good on that cream colored paper.) I am enjoying the Pelikan 4001 reviews.

Great review as always!

A pleasant color, but certainly uninspiring.

After using the ink for a few weeks. It is less blue than I thought, and it works great in yellowish papers

Flow is perfect, drytime is quick, just like any other Pelikan ink.

The color is nice but not overwhelming, catches attention just enough

Thank you for another great review. I like the 4001 line better than the Edelstein line but I'm in the minority.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
