Definitely consider Sei-Boku and the other pigment inks. I'm glad you found an ink that works for you.

I'll echo the others by saying Sei-boku is a must! But all in due time. :-D

Now I have to ink up some pens with said inks! XD

Can someone demonstrate the anti-feathering properties of Sei-boku, as compared to inks more familiar to me such as Salix?

I can do a writing sample on cheap notepad paper tomorrow. But unfortunately I can't do any comparison with Salix.

For iron-gall: Akkerman No. 10 (Ijzer-Galnoten). Great color; no problems with F nib.

Here is Sailor Sei-boku on (from top to bottom) cheap A7 notepad paper, standard copy paper and Office Depot's "Post-it". No Salix, sorry...

Maybe these are not the very lowest quality paper, but they sure aren't the top ones either.

I've used many IG and nano inks over the years but my current favorite is MB permanent blue. It's got great color, great shading, it's slightly dry (which I like), works great on poor paper and is very easy to clean both off fingers and out of a pen.

Montblanc Permanent Blue is the perfect ink in every aspect.

I haven't tried Sei-boku, and my experience with Kiwa-guro is limited (it does not do well in a Preppy with a rollerball tip, BTW... :().

I love iron gall inks, though. My favorites are some of the KWZI colors (especially IG Violet #3 and IG Blue #3), Akkerman #10, Salix, and some of the old IG inks that FPN member Pharmacist used to make (particularly Urkundentinte and Turkish Night).

I've also tried some of the "document" inks from De Atramentis and R&K. Of the ones I've tried, my favorite is R&K Documentus Hellblau -- pretty color, well behaved, non cloggy, and a bit less spread (although there still is some) on the page than the DA ones I've had experience with.

It took me a while to find some paper that would show feathering and bleeding.

I don't have any Salix inks, but there are a couple of others there. I find that the first ink, Sailor's Kiwaguro Nano-Carbon Black to be the best behaved ink of all the ones I have, as regards feathering and bleeding.

You can see that the degree of feathering is related to the degree of bleeding.

Got a few I-G (ESSRI, Salix, Scabiosa, Platinum, Hero No62, Pelikan 4001 Bl.Bl.) and a couple pigment ones (Sailor Sei Boku, Noodler's BB). The I-G ones, with the exception of Hero No 62, are impervious to bleed through, no matter what paper I toss them on. Moleskin, cheap copier paper, you name it, they are good to go. By comparison, Sei Boku and Noodler's Black will sometimes bleed on said papers. On the other hand, they are even more water-resistant (basically waterproof).
