Inks To Buy When In Australia (Melbourne Area)

Recommended Posts

Just took a friend to the airport last night. He was taking a flight to Melbourne, Australia (where he is originally from). Offered to pick up some Australian ink for me while he is there. He'll be there for about 10 days.

Any suggestions for brick and mortar stores which might have Australian inks?

Appreciate any answers.

Thank you...

Sadly, there are not too many brick and mortar stores in Melbourne. PenCity used to carry the Noodlers Australian exclusive, but last time I was there, they were liquidating their last Noodlers.. it was very slim picking (and nothing exciting).

Your best bet is to order the Blackstone Inks (Justwrite.com.au) - not in Melbourne but it can be shipped to your friend's address. There is also the Snake inks from Bookbinder.com

Pen City in Elizabeth St have the best range of inks in Melbourne. Prices are fairly typical, but I haven't seen any Australian inks there. The other two B&M stores in the CBD (Tafts and The Pen Place) don't have as good a range, but do carry some different inks.

Online is your best bet as Cyber6 points out. bookbindersonline.com.au and justwrite.com.au are the only suppliers of Australian made ink I'm aware of.

Thanks for the information. I went to the sites mentioned and really didn't find anything that called to me. Or even whispered. I will go back again tomorrow and check things out again.

I can only say --

If Peters of Kensington had any in stock (they are currently re-stocking pretty well all their inks) I would say get some Pelikan Edelstein Sapphire and Topaz. Each are nice inks, and a 50:50 blend is even nicer.

Wow, I haven't seen Slim Pickens in many, many years. He appeared in cowboy movies and the last movie I recall is Dr. Strangelove, with Peter Sellers. I think Sellers is now working for eBay and helps vendors because many of them use his name..."Sellers".

Or not...

I will suggest for you to search on FPN for Barrier Reef Blue and Sidney Harbour Blue... both are BlackStone inks, excellent behaviour and sheen like crazy. Pic below (Barier Reef at the top... magenta sheen, Sidney Harbour second from last.. coppery sheen)
