Pilot Decimo Coming To The Us!

According to Goulet Pens and Anderson Pens, the Pilot Decimo is coming to the US! I know I could always order online from Jetpens and vendors overseas, but this is still great news to have the Decimo finally officially here. I prefer the Decimo over the Vanishing Point as it's thinner, lighter and at least for me the clip is a much more comfortable design.

Oh good, now we can overpay for yet another Japanese pen...sigh. They can be had for about 115 bucks from Japan (was right at 100 a few months ago, what happened!!), lets see what the US vendors will charge...meanwhile a VP is still right at 80 bucks from Japan. Wonder why the Decimo is so much more than the VP even within Japan, and if the same price disparity will carry over in the USA pricing? That would make the Decimo about 185 bucks in the USA...

I'd be interested in seeing one of these. The VP is a bit too heavy for my hand, and I had trouble with the clip on the one I handled. Do people who have the Decimo have less trouble with the clip location and size?

I've held both, but actually bought a Decimo. The clip isn't so much the issue for me, it was the weight of the VP (and the girth) that put me off. I will say, though, that the VP's clip is more "in the way" than the Decimo's is for me.

I've attempted to write with the regular "fat" VP & the thinner gripped Decimo. The Decimo was far more comfortable for me than the standard VP. Sure, I still had to get used to where I placed my fingers, but at least I was able to write with the Decimo.

 

Does anyone know who will be carrying Decimos in the US? Would the italic nib insert be available for this pen?

The Decimo I tried was an earlier (vintage?) model. Would the new Decimo's grip dimensions be the same as the old?

With the clips on, I do find the Capless Decimo more comfortable to hold than the Vanishing Point (I got my Decimo from Japan). I do have a couple of Vanishing Points with the clips removed, and find those as comfortable as the Decimo for writing at length, but of course, they won't stay in my shirt pocket and need to be carried in some kind of case.

It uses the same nib unit and converter as the other VP pens. The difference is in the size of the pen body.

We'll Have them, of course. Italic nib is not available as a standard option, Extra Fine, Fine, or Medium nibs only, but of course, regular VP nibs will fit inside so you could purchase a Stub and use it, or swap from another VP.

There is a stub nib option available separately, but it has been so successful, that demand has outstripped supply. It is available standard on a ouple of pen models only at present time. Next anticipated delivery is going to be Spring. Not sure what you mean by "grade".

Perhaps grade means .8mm or 1.1mm?

Yupp, that's what I meant.

Grades like: EF or M or BB , etc.... A tip width, that's not standardized across the industry, but varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

So, in the case of the Pilot VP, what width is their stub?

I, too, have had both and much prefer the Decimo due to the weight and girth of the VP. The clip position hasn't bothered me.
