Australian Sheaffer Snorkel

Hi all

 

Just thought i would share my latest find an Australian made Snorkel. I never knew that Sheaffer had a factory in Australia until now. Im guessing the pen is a Snorkel Valiant made in the late 50's however that is based off american made pens. Only thing i can say for certain is that the pen was given as a gift in 1968.

Snorkel production ran 1954 to ~1962 in Australia, your pen is before ~1960.

I have just returned (three days ago) an Australian Snorkel to the seller as it had a crack at the plunger end of the barrel.

I have an identical Australian made pen, but not in such good condition. Yours looks pristine.

 

It's a very nice writer and was the first Snorkel I restored.

I found an pastel blue Aussie "Saratoga" (I wonder if the Aussie version was called Saratoga) with a stub--looks like about a 1.1, or so. The barrel and blind cap were no good and the Aussie parts guy is off in his "caravan" see the countryside until sometime in May, but then my part will be winging to the USA and to me. I'll post a photo asap.

 

BTW, I think Sheaffer had a facility in Brazil too, and of course Canada.
