Seeking Reputable, Cost Effective Repair Of Namiki Vp Nibs

Hi, all,

I'm new to this site, having lurked for years...not finding a way to search the forum archives, so forgive my starting a new thread on a topic likely answered before.

I have 3 Namiki Vanishing Point nibs, tines in varying degrees of bent-ness, all victims of my ceramic tile floor (and my clumsy fingers). Pilot informs me that they do not repair bent nibs, and cannot refer me. New nibs are $70.

So: whom would you recommend for reputable, cost-effective repair?

Thanks in advance!

Generally speaking, it costs more than $70 to repair a nib.

Well ... if no one can repair these nibs for under $70 each, that would certainly push me in a certain direction...in shopping about, I often see something like $30 quoted for bent tines. But I imagine there are other, related charges that chock it up?

Its worth shopping around, but I was under the impression that the $30 is for tines bent so slightly that its more of a nib adjustment. You didn't post any pictures, but its hard to imagine that if you dropped them on a ceramic tile floor that the damage isn't pretty serious. I have a nib that's bent pretty badly right now that I'm looking into fixing, so far the only hard quote I've gotten is $130. You might have better luck.

Well...the most damaged seems not only to have one tine completely out of alignment, but to have a damaged feed. Ok - that's one to replace. The other two will write - the damaged sustained is less extreme. But they're out of alignment.

Where do these nibs live? It might be that we can collectively direct you to a local pen club or someone that repairs pens near you for an evaluation.

It is difficult to quote nib repairs based on pictures and prices can vary a lot depending on what one person sees or thinks they see in a picture.

I think anyone doing nib straightening work will include in the cost flow adjustment.

Many thanks in advance for the suggestion, FarmBoy! The nibs live in the Evil Apple (New York). You'd think there would be a plethora of resources here - and maybe there are. Fountain Pen Hospital does not have an ER; they referred me back to Pilot.

I do them. Sometimes the rhodium plating needs to be touched up which adds to the cost a bit. The Long Island pen show is in mid-March out at Hofstra. You might want to go out to have it looked at there. We plan to be there...

Ron Z., I will try to get to the show...it's a long shot, but it could be fun, of course. And if my nibs can be evaluated (and / or fixed) that would be super. Thanks!
