Winter Glow - Montblanc Le Ink

I believe that people who work in Montblanc headquarters are evil-minded. If ther were good, we could buy Winter Glow in every MB boutique. Unhappily we can't. We can win an auction and pay crazy amount of money for this ink but it's not good deal :)

Here it is. Intriguing, handsome, unobtainable. Great red ink.

A. Thanks for the good review. Especially your comparisons. That is what turns me on the most!

B. I bought mine back in November 2012 when it came out.

C. Thusly -- and by no means meant to hurt anybody -- what I've leanrt is that (however evil anybody in the uppermost storeys of MB may be), when a new MB LE ink cums out, buy it immediately.

Well, let's look positively at the shenanigans and remember that sometime in the up and cumming 10 months, 4 more MBs (whether they are LEs or not, I forget) are to supposed to appear... so....

Unless my monitor/eyes are deceiving me Winter Glow and DA Oriental Red look very similar. And you say?

I was fortunate enough to receive a sample of this from the lovely Amberlea. It is truly a gorgeous color, and it writes very well. I've been using it sparingly; I am going to be sad when I run out.

I paid way too much for two bottles of this beautiful ink, and am glad I did. Great review!

P.S. Might be worth letting the Tekker folks have a go at it.

I do love this ink, but I think Hitchcock might be slightly deeper and richer. Both are lovely though. Thanks for the great review!

I don't own Hitchcock but from everything I've seen it is much more of a blood red (which makes sense). Winter Glow has some definite vibrancy, more of a jewel tone, with less of a brownish hue. However the impressive thing is that, unlike many jewel tone reds, there isn't really any hint of that washed out pinkish tone so many of us despise. Hitchcock is actually much more my taste, unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to acquire a bottle. It would be neat to see a comparison if anyone does have both.

I will say that, in my experience, Diamine Matador is decently close to Winter Glow in narrower nib widths. Both inks have a bright saturated look that is quite pleasant. However, in a broader wetter nib, like the one used in this review -- you can see where winter glow .. well glows!! As you can see from the swabs Winter Glow is much richer than Matador -- somewhat similar to the new Corn Poppy Red although CPR seems more orange and has a bit of that dreaded pink hue in the swab. It's an excellent mark up ink.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
