Those are big honking nibs. What size are they?

The biggest I've got on a 45 is what is supposed to be an OM. Although I'm starting to wonder if it's a OF in disguise....

They are R, B and D nibs.

So Y is fine oblique. Didn't know that.

Okay, people have now explained "R" and "Y" -- what kind of nib is a "D"? I know that it meant something for Pelikan nibs (don't remember what OH) but what about Parker? Same as on the Pelikan nibs, or something different?

As far as I know the D stands for Medium Stub nib. Others may correct me if I am wrong.

 

PS. Have just learnt that the D is medium italic.

The Stub nibs are marked S and are quite rare

I think I have a few S coded nibs. But I would have to dig for them among my around hundred 45s.

I've got a Flighter (chrome end) which I had always assumed was a stub, but now see that it can't be - it's marked E. So if D is medium italic, would this be broad italic?

Yes it is, and C is fine italic. I think the P45 stubs were just one size which is medium-ish, i.e. the S code; I've never seen anything suggesting Parker made other sizes classed as 'stub'.

Thank you for that. It is a very cursive italic, and a pleasure to write with.

 

Of course what is incredible now is just the huge range of nibs that were available on even quite modest pens.

I prefer any calligraphic nibs, whenever the brands make them for a particular model, but I sadly own only P45 14K B, I have always wanted some of your wonderful nibs, but never found a source to purchase.

I prefer any calligraphic nibs, whenever the brands make them for a particular model, but I sadly own only P45 14K B, I have always wanted some of your wonderful nibs, but never found a source to purchase.

You would have to come to a 'dangerous-to-live-in country - Pakistan - to be able to acquire these nibs. These are found everywhere over here. Lol.

 

And yes, you did show your deepest hate for those of us having these dangrous / threatening 45 nibs.

Khan, how is it that there are so many different kinds of Parker 45 nib's available in Pakistan ?

The tiny distribution of Monsters in my 45 collection include one each: W, O, S, and one marvel that I bought from Susan Wirth at the LA Show about 6-8 years ago. She said it was made for/ sold in the French market. It isn't marked but is a very sharp oblique italic. One of the finest nibs I've ever used. It is a monster in a very different way than the context of this thread though.

Yes, and that's one of the things I love about the P45. There's as many nib varieties for the P75 but they go for two and three times the price.

I don't have an S so unfortunately I can't show you. I spotted one on a very ordinary P45 Classic a while back and could have it for a very good price, but in a rare (extremely) moment of sensibleness I thought how seldom I use my medium italic and so I probably wouldn't use the stub much either, and I didn't buy it. I have a touch of regret about that when I remember it from time to time.

It certainly did take me a while to find my Y and C nibs!

Or is it just that he has 800 pens!
