Unkown Vintage Pilot Vacuum

caffed

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

I have a vintage Pilot vacuum filler pen and I was wondering if anyone could identify it.

It has a vacuum filling reservoir but there isn't a seal on the o-ring so it won't fill.

I am trying to take it apart in order to see what needs to be fixed but don't want to break it.

I think it just needs another o-ring but am not sure.

I am able to get the nib section off, just not the plunger rod.

There is an indentation on the top that goes from one side to another.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Pen looks more like an eyedropper with an ink shut off.

Might ping Ricky about it.

Yes, it's an eye dropper with shutoff valve. You can also ask FPN member Stan in the Rising Sun forum.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification.

I thought that it might be vacuum filler only that it resembles others that I've seen.

Now I just need to figure out how to fill it.

You just need something like an eyedropper, syringe or plastic disposable bulb pipet to transfer ink from the bottle to the barrel of the pen. Then use a little bit of pure silicone grease to seal the section threads (this may not be necessary if the threads are as tight as they're supposed to be. The shutoff valve is normally closed when you're not using the pen, but you can open it slightly for longer writing sessions. Just watch out for ink leaks from the back end, which can happen with vintage eyedroppers. If you need to have that seal replaced, there are only a few people who can do it, apparently.

Replacing the shaft seal on these can really suck since in many cases the pens were not intended to come apart.

fill it first if anything is leaking at the back seal according to stan contact eckiethump yes this is a Japanese style eye dropper pen common back in the days dues to the shut off valve however I'm not sure how good the shut off valve with pressure difference

PS: it is still best advisable to not pull the shut off valve all the way you risk breaking the seal more

Hi there.

[snip]

There is an indentation on the top that goes from one side to another.

If you mean there's a pin going through the blind cap, that's great news. The pin should be holding the blind cap to the shaft instead of glue.
