I have a few questions: What exactly do you mean by clean it? Do you mean restore it? Does the piston work?

I would start by flushing with water and maybe apply fresh silicon grease to the piston. The Pelican's Perch has a good guide for this.

If you want to clean the outside, I would look for a polishing cloth.

Nice pen.

flush the pen with water, lube the piston if it is stiff and the exterior needs a nice polishing cloth. What else would need to be cleaned?

Agree with all of the above, but if the piston is tight, the first washing/filling I would do with slightly soapy water which will clean it a little better and lubricate. Then rinse several times with clean water, then lubricate with lithium grease.

Forgot to ask: how about relating the story about how you acquired it? I just learned they were made in '98 and only 888 were made.

When lubricating the piston, I always use pure silicone grease.

I don't know much about lithium grease.

I've heard it's an excellent multipurpose lubricant, but how about using it for your pens?

Be thoughtful when using that polishing cloth. It takes mere minutes to remove the patina which has developed over the last 30 years, which some people see as added value. And remember, anytime you

are polishing, you are removing material.

No. Not lithium grease ! Silicon grease, as in SCUBA shop product.

Lithium grease will damage plastics and rubber over time. Silicone grease only for a pen's safety and longevity.
