How's The Parker Sonnet Rollerball?

Recommended Posts

Hi, all

I noticed a very interesting pen called the Parker Sonnet Rollerball. Hence my name, I have more of an interest in rollerballs. I would like to know, is this a nice pen, or not? What's the best compatible refill for it?

Thanks,

I have several Sonnet Fountainpens, and I like them. They are the successors of the Parker 75 series.

I do not know the Rollerball (or Ballpoint) of the series, unlike you I am not really fond of them.

You can put any Rollerball refill in that are compatible with the general Parker RB. However, my normal goto shop only shows the Parker brand, and no replacements.

Refillfinder states that Monteverde also makes refills in this size. (which I have never tried)

Hi!

I also like the Sonnet lines. They really do remind me of the old 75's....

I would like to ask another question: On Amazon, there are Sonnets, but they have no "18k" markings on them, just "Parker". I checked the Parker website, and they still had the markings

Are these fake?

Are you referring to the RB or the FP?

I did buy a Sonnet through Amazon.co.uk a few years back. That was a genuine FP, I believe.

But there ARE fakes sold through Amazon. I think there is not so much chance for that if they are "fulfilled bij Amazon" or what is the term they use? If they act as intermediary for another company that does the shipping themselves it depends on the company doing so.

I may be one of the few people who prefer using rollerball pens in the office (I leave the fountain pens at home).

The Red lacquer Parker Sonnet Rollerball in my collection is one of my rollerballs in rotation. Of the 6 I use regularly, it is mid pack. Nice pen but not my favorite. I prefer my Monteverdi and my Xezo.

My favorite pens are Parker's Sonnet rollerball and ballpoint. I have both of them in red with gold trim. I prefer to write with the rollerball due to its wider diameter at the section, although section may only be a term for fountain pens.

I have never liked any of Parker's own refills for these pens. I initially found and liked Visconti's Parker style Gel Ballpoint refills AA38M (.07mm point) and AA38B (1.0mm point). I prefer the broad 1.0mm point. These refills fit the Sonnet ballpoint exactly and they can be easily modified to fit the Sonnet rollerball by adding some 3M Electrical Tape to snug up the fit at the point end and a plastic tube spacer to extend the length at the back end.

Recently I have begun using Pilot G-2 Gel Ballpoint Pen refills for my Sonnet rollerball. I prefer the broad 1.0mm point. These refills (or just buy the pen and take out the cartridge/refill) can be modified to fit the Sonnet rollerball by carefully using sand paper, a file, or a Dremel to change the 90 degree edge of the refill where it joins to the clear plastic ink tube to a 45 degree taper. This will allow the point to stick out of the pen far enough to write comfortably, but not quite far enough to look "perfect". If anyone knows a better way to modify the G-2 refill to fit the Parker Sonnet rollerball please post your advice.

Unfortunately, the G-2 refills will not fit the Sonnet ballpoint. If anyone knows of a better refill for the Sonnet ballpoint than the Visconti AA38 please post your advice.

Recently, I have found the Pilot Precise Grip and uni-ball Vision Elite pens which have a new type of liquid ink. It is not a gel and it flows beautifully, very similar to a fountain pen. For both of these pens I prefer their broad points - 1.0mm on the Pilot and .08mm on the uni-ball. Of the two, I slightly prefer the Vision Elite. Unfortunately, both of these pens have refills that will not fit in any upscale ballpoint or rollerball pens that I know of, and certainly not in the Parker Sonnet ballpoint or rollerball. These pens write very smoothly, with no skips or blobs of ink that can sometimes be encountered with gel refills. They are the closest thing to a real fountain pen that I have ever encountered. I wish both companies made upscale rollerball housings for these refills. If anyone knows of other versions of liquid ink pens similar to these with refills that will fit the Parker Sonnet rollerball or ballpoint please post your advice!

Hi FourwheelCycle, and :W2FPN:

As RMN said, the Monteverde refills probably fit. I'm thinking about using those for the rollerball

As for the ballpoint, I'm guessing that the Schmidt Easy Flow 9000 is suitable for the parker ballpoints, so I think that's your best bet.

I have the Sonnet Cisele Rollerball, and really like it. I am more than happy with the Parker fine point rollerball refills. Just my .02 :)

I have the Sonnet Laque Ambre, a light golden brown pattern, and I like the Parker fine rollerball refills also. Two cents more.
