Replacement Nibs For Pilot Metropolitan

Hee hee... I bought some special nibs off of a particular site that sells stuff. Enter these key words: "Ebay Wings Nibs Lot 3" :) :D  :lticaptd:

They come in groups of three, they have free international shipping, they kinda have a tight fit on the feed, they're made of "gold?", and they have the inscription "Wings Super Quality" where the Pilot logo goes.

I'm a huge Metropolitan fan, too. I love the things! I can't imagine any better value, period, and my Metros write as well as or better than any other of my pens. I wish the nib selection included a 1.1 stub. Other than that, I can't even think of a suggested improvement. The new Retro Pops offer some bright colors and new trim patterns. Love the grey houndstooth.

As some of the other posts suggest, the Metro will accept stubs from the 78G, Plumix, and can swap nibs with Prera. Possibly the Wing Sun 659 too, but I've tried all the other refittings, so I'm not positive about the WS. The WS in its solid colors looks exactly like the 78G, but the feed might be slightly different.

The 78G and WS are sold as B nibs that are really italics even more than stubs since they don't have tipping. The B is 1.2 and the BB is 1.5 or 1.6? something like that.

Let me add, the Metro, like the Falcon, and like the Mont Blanc 149, posts too insecurely ---or maybe my hand is the wrong shape because the thumb web pulls the post loose as I write. Not a problem I've ever had with the 78G or Platinum pens.

it's been a while since your initial post. I am now also trying to replace the nib on my Pilot MR and was wondering if you had any luck in finding a replacement nib for you Pilot Metro. At the cost of the pen, I'm getting tempted to just buy a new pen.

Thanks in advance for your input.

If you want an actual Pilot nib, you're pretty much stuck buying one of the cheaper Pilots mentioned. You can also search for Wing Sung 698 nibs, which are sold individually. They're allegedly made on the same machinery as Pilots, purchased when Pilot moved out of a factory in China. I don't think the metals the same, though, as the ones I've purchased just haven't felt the same. Then again, that could be a psychological thing. But it's an option.

Really, though, I've wasted far more money chasing an alternate solution to get my pen back than I would have if I'd just tossed it out and bought a new MR2. Good luck with whichever solution you try.

I know for a FACT that there are old stock Wing Sung "gold tone" copies that fit the feeds of Pilot pens. I know so because I was able to cop a couple on Ebay for replacing my bent Pilot Metropolitan nib. However, for the writing experience, just buy a Plumix or Penmanship and swap out the nibs. The Wing Sung copies need to be flossed, smoothed and one time I even had to get out the coarse grit to smooth out a burr.

Ok thanks, I believe I'm going with a new Pilot Based on the inputs it appears to be more of a hassle than it's worth. Luckily Pilots are not expensive.

thanks again
