Parker Vector Issues

Hi, I'm a big fan of Parker vectors despite the fact that they are on the low end of the Parker price range. I have a nice collection of about 15 vectors with different nibs and styles. I "assign" an ink to a vector and then use each for projects that fit that type of nib or ink color.

One frustration I have on occasion is that the vector nibs that arrive from India nowadays on eBay often skip or write dry. I suspect the quality control on these pens is pretty low nowadays. I'd still like to resolve this if I can and and am open to any suggestions.

Learn to adjust the nib.

WARNING, you may damage/destroy the first few nibs you work on.

This is a delicate procedure, so you have to gradually adjust in SMALL increments.

And you have to know when to stop, and what NOT to do, or you could damage the nib.

So start with the cheapest, junkest nibs you have. That way the loss is minimal.

Hi, Trying to adjust Vector nibs isn't easy, due to the small size.

Most of the Vectors I've seen were made UK in the '90s and up to 2006, were very smooth writers, and ink flow was not an issue at all.

It's possible to smooth them out using the normal methods, if needed, but they are so inexpensive that I just put the best nib/feeders in the colour barrels I prefer.

I found that new pens do seem to be improved by flushing them through a couple of times with water plus a drop of detergent mixed in, and they need the same treatment every couple of months anyway.
