I had said "No more pens for me for quite a while!", but I have weakened and ordered a replacement for my recently lost Cross Botanica. Despite finding fault with it for not writing any better than my Metros, not having an included converter, and costing more than it "should," once it was gone, I missed its blingy-ness too much! Fortunately I found a good deal on one at ipens. This one I'll have to watch like a hawk when I open my purse, I suppose.

I mean it, no more pens for awhile! ;)

Apparently I'm a liar. I've got to stay off this forum.

After reading various threads here, I'm now waiting on two more pens. One is a Parker 51 Demi manufactured in the year I was born (ebay purchase, should arrive tomorrow). It will be my first and hopefully only (Please!) vintage pen. The other is a Platinum Century in the blue. After doing a little research on the Century, I found amazon's $73 price too good to pass up. I expected it to be from a Japanese seller, but the tracking info says it was shipped from Chattanooga today. I hope it writes smoothly enough for me; reviews say a little feedback is normal for this pen.

I received the Cross pen today, and with two more in the mail, I feel like it's Christmas again.

I'll second you Crescent2; I was on a pen buying hiatus as well, but broke yesterday, and I too bought a Cross Botanica Green Daylily. I am really excited to see it in real life.

I also ordered a Vac Mini and a Diamond 580 AL Green (to arrive at the end of February, according to the seller).

RE: the Platinum Century.....Did it come with a converter? What nib did you get for it??

I just ordered a Bourgogne with a UEF nib from Amazon (albeit through a Japanese seller.....) for $80...plus $8 for the 500 converter...

Always try to get the dibs....on fountain pens with EF nibs!!

I'm waiting on a M600 EF red/black from Rolf Thiel. Unfortunately I just heard that Pelikan is back ordered on EF nibs ... so it will be late February 😾🙀😿

Enjoy your new pens!

Looks as if temptation comes in threes! All three of my new ones have arrived. I'm enjoying my replacement Botanica, and my Platinum Century 3776 came yesterday. I've dipped it in some sample inks, and today I partially filled it with Kon-Peki. So far, I like it. It's pretty and writes well. Then today, my first (and I hope my only!) vintage pen came in the mail, a 1947 Parker 51 Demi! It looks very good for its age, writes well, and is the cutest little thing ever! Stick a fork in me; I'm DONE. at least for a while

No, the converter was a separate purchase. It was about $8 from Pen Chalet through amazon. My Century 3776 has a M nib. I was afraid anything finer would feel a little scratchy to me, as I've read the Platinums are designed to not be buttery smooth. I am very pleased with this pen and its price. It's not the least bit scratchy, just makes a bit more sound on the paper as it writes than my little Metros do! It's my first and hopefully only gold nib pen. These latest three pens are going to have to do me for quite some time.

I, too, thought the wine colored pen was beautiful--even more so with the gold trim, but I especially wanted the blue. Enjoy your beautiful pen when it arrives!

Last year a Parker Duofold International was offered to EoC for free. As this seemed too good to be true the offered was rejected. Perhaps a mistake? Who knows.

Anyway, this one has been secretly harbouring a desire to see a Parker Duofold in the flesh and so this morning has gambled $50 on the following pen:-

fpn_1454434383__duofold_2.jpg

The pen will need servicing though.

EoC is not entirely sure which model this is - senior, junior or streamline. What is certain is that it is post 1930 and made for the Canadian market.

So, is this a reasonable gamble, fellow fountaineers, or has EoC made another huge mistake?

How can it be a mistake? If it doesn't write, EoC can always pose with it and look pretty! It looks exactly like the pen Manalto is waiting for in the mail, so I may be biased.

Well, if Manalto judges this model to be good enough to buy then perhaps EoC may have got a reasonable pen. Incidentally, it does not matter which pen is in proximity, EoC will never look pretty!

Ever get one of those days when you are fiddling around with eBay and unexpectedly found you've won something that you were in two minds about? That was this week for EoC.

Ended up with these two (from different sellers):

fpn_1454493274__red_45.jpg

Price: $35 for the pair. EoC is perplexed as to why bid at all. In the past this one has had 3 Parker 45s - a Kullock, a Grey with a gold nib, and a Blue deluxe with an oblique gold nib - and has given away all three. And here we have two more inbound. How stupid is that? Oh well, perhaps we can make someone else happy again.

A bit like EoC, I bid low on ebay but surprised myself by winning! So as of yesterday I have a Targa 1005, fine nib and showing very little sign of use. After a flush and wipe with a damp cloth, it's a beautiful writer and almost unblemished fluted gold finish. AND it was part of a set, so I also got the ballpoint and rollerball, again almost-new condition. Not bad for £58, and less than 24 hours delivery time so I didn't even have to wait and fret! I don't want the ballpoint or rollerball, so I might sell them on, but the pen looks like a keeper.

I had a couple of Targas before, but both were Medium nibs and quite wet, and a bit underwhelming and I passed them on; the Fine nib seems a different animal altogether.

Lamy Al Star in Copper Orange, with a fine nib. Plus about a half dozen cheap Chinese pens :-).
