Omas A.vespucci Nib Imprint

Hi. I do own a beautiful Omas Vespucci, which I bought used a while ago.

Only recently I have noticed the nib has a different imprint. Precisely, the word "omas" is completely different from the ones I got used to see.

The picture shows it in comparison to a Omas Colombo's nib (the Vespucci's is on the left).

The section of the Vespucci is imprinted "1989", so must be a 1st year pen.

I was wondering if the nib on my Vespucci could be a replacement, and not originally mounted on the pen.

It is a wonderful 14k nib, flexible...I am totally happy with that. Mine is just curiosity.

Also, all the Vespucci I have seen had 18k gold nibs.

Any comment is appreciated.

Thanks.

This is an interesting one. I haven't seen a nib like that. I know some A.M. 87 models have 14kt gold nibs but they are single tone...I haven't seen a two tone one like that on a wood OMAS and I have never seen that font used for "OMAS" on any of their pens.

Maybe it is a replacement. The early 80s Arte Italiana pens had a nib just like your Colombo but in 14kt gold

I took out my Vespucci pen today and noticed that the nib on it is the same as the right hand nib on your photo, the one with 750 18k imprint.

My Columbo and Vespucci both have nibs like the one on right in your photo.

I have owned 50 or so Omas dating back to 1990's. The only ones that have 14k nibs are newer ones marked "Extra Flessible". My AM87's all had 18k nibs.

Like "Keyless Works", I have not seen the font for "Omas" in your picture.

If you have access to Dolcini's book and a good magnifying glass, perhaps you could page through it and find a nib like the one you showed.

I took a look at the Dolcini book and didn't see anything with that nib imprint. The book however doesn't show the nib of the first year Vespucci. I would reach out to OMAS and see if they recognize it or you could ask some of the more expert members on the forum like LetiziaJac or Snapei.

Thanks for your kind comments and opinions.

I have seen AM87s with 14k nibs, only I cannot remember if they had the same Omas imprint on my Vespucci.

My AV (1999) nib looks like the one on the right too except that the 'O' is significantly bigger than the MAS..

Mmhh...I see. The design of the arrow is also different in your case, with narrower inner lines and the breathing hole which happens to be more centered.
