Montblanc Starwalker History?

I'm a huge fan of MB and the StarWalkers are my favorites. Does anyone know the history of when the pen line was started and how the design was derived?

I really love this pen. Thus far, I have the following MB SWs:

Basic Black resin SW fineliner with platinum fittings.

100 Year Ballpoint with a diamond.

Platinum resin Ballpoint.

Cool Blue Ballpoint.

Midnight metal Ballpoint.

Red Gold Metal Ballpoint.

Extreme Ballpoint.

Rubber and Metal Fineliner.

Ultimate Carbon Fineliner.

Red Gold Metal Fineliner.

Ultimate Carbon Fountain.

Red Gold Resin Fountain.

Red Gold Metal Fountain.

... and now the Midnight Metal Fountain.

Whoa :yikes: .... had no idea I had so many Montblanc StarWalkers until typing this out. I should thin them out at some point.

Haha well not wanting to force you to expand your collection however I bought a Starwalker Black Mystery ballpoint (my first MB ballpoint) a couple of months ago and the boutique told me that the Black Mystery had been discontinued and was not longer being produced... It's a beautiful pen!!

If you are planning on thinning any of the fountains, please PM me! :)

Also, whatever you do, DO NOT (I repleat DO NOT) pick up the SW Extreme Steel... I did and was almostly instantly out $1250... Good thing I always leave my wallet in the car when going to the MB boutique unless I am planning on picking up something... :)

I'm just a Starwalker kind of guy...

Congratulations on the Black Mystery. Did you switch the standard medium or fine ballpoint to a Broad refill? If you haven't I highly recommend you try the broad. Super smooth and when I write slowly I can get real line variation by changing the pressure. I was at Best Buy the other day and had a checklist written with my MB ballpoint and the guy at the register asked me if I wrote it with a fountain pen✒️. I saw a YouTube video with a guy writing with a broad ballpoint and it looked like a fountain pen in terms of handwriting. That's what got me into the MB ballpoints.

I almost purchased the extreme steel the day it was released however, after I saw it in the boutique I was worried that over time, due to the design, that the pen and cap wouldn't line up perfectly. Also, it reminded me of the ST DuPont Defi. I think if the price was just slightly lower, I may have purchased it anyway. Suffice to say, I'm glad I didn't pick it up. It's nice but I worry about the long term alignment of the design.

Thank you! I got a fine, medium and broad refill when I bought the pen however put the medium and broad on my desk and have stuck with the fine ever since! Your comment just prompted me to try them all out, and I can definitely feel the line variation you talk about. I'll probably spend the night experimenting with this!

My late wife gave my a Starwalker Rollerball and FP for my 62nd birthday 3-29-07. I think they were fairly new then. Found some articles dated 2004 that mention them. It was my first FP in years and reignited my love of them. I now have almost 50, four of which are MBs.
