Just pulled the ebay trigger for my first Montblanc - a 146 Platinum. Really looking forward to how it compares to my other "big" pen , the Pelikan M805.

Congratulations. You will probably like them both. Many here do.

Well, I finally broke down and bought some more MB LE ink - Tolstoy, Golden Yellow, and ultra black. I am still waiting for the Shakespeare to come back in stock.

I would get a BB on that nib for sure ;)

Hello! I suppose this is a good place for my montblanc purchase story. My first month blank purchase was the meisterstuck 145. it was one of my first pen purchases while getting into the pen world and unfortunately at the time I regretted it deeply. Just seemed to be way over priced as I became more aware of other cost of gold nib pens. I worked in a mall that had a boutique that I purchased it from. The reason why I went for montblanc as one of my first pens was for the fact that I grew up knowing that Montblanc was an amazing pen company and I didn't know about the multitude of other brands out there and I tried purchasing a used pen on eBay which turned out to be a fake but I caught it quickly. Montblanc has made my pen purchase more than valid, they have given me a large plethora of free items as well, the pen wasn't writing so well maybe due to the fact of my hand writing style and I am left-handed. so I sent it in while it was under warranty describing my handwriting and the issue of skipping and it was sent back with a little more flex and glassy smooth tip for lefties. Free of charge. Now I have a customized pen, they have shown time and time again that their customer service and dedication to their customers is without comparison. They're craftsman are truely skilled in the art of nibs. And I will treasure my montblanc for my lifetime

More vintage ink. This one a bottle of green in the "indestrictible" little triangular plastic bottle. I am not sure when these stopped being made, probably the late 1970s or early 1980s. Maybe one of you can tell more more precisely.

I like the picture of the nib widths on the flaps. This is post BBB, but when OF was still an option. Also, it has SuperCleaner-16, not the SC-21 found in the glass shoe bottle ink containers. What happened to 17 to 20? :D

Would love to know how long it takes for the nib exchange.

I remember buying these bottles at my local (long-gone) stationer in 1979 and 1980. Black ink was what I used, and I think that was the only MB color they stocked.

The triangle shape was to allow getting the tip of a nib deep into the ink. The slightly flexible plastic bottle implied "office supply" rather than "luxury goods".

I'm guessing the "SC" super cleaner numbers either were which lab formula number (in which case 17-20 were perhaps not released to the public), or the numbers were pure marketing woo-woo.

I've been quoted 8-10 weeks. No nibs in Australia, so its being sent to Singapore for the exchange.

Thanks for the info. Yes, these refills were from the waning days of MB as an office supplies type ink provider. I know they moved to fancier glass bottles in the 1980s at some point (somewhat similar to the shoe bottles from the 1950s and early 1960s). I think before these plastic triangles they had those gold colored plastic ink pots with the flat bottom.

Exactly so; I remember the gold plastic bottles as well. I also have shoe-shaped bottles dating from the 1980's with usable ink still in them..

I have never really been interested in Montblanc. I amassed a pretty large collection of Omas, then added a number of Aurora Optimas, Pelikan 800's and Nakayas.

A couple of weeks ago, quite on impulse, I picked up a MB Jules Verne, which is shown on the left in the picture below. I bought it based on pictures because blue is my favorite color and I loved the bright blue finish. It writes beautifully, although at first I wasn't sure I liked the bright and shiny metal trim.

At the recent Ohio Pen Show, I saw the MB Edgar Allen Poe, which I had liked based on pictures I saw when researching the Verne. This time I was able to see it in person. You know the rest, and the picture below tells the story.

I don't know if both will stay with me forever, but for now I am enjoying my first experiences with MB fountain pens.
