I just ordered a 90th Anniversary 146 with a medium nib from e-bay. It cost £260 including postage.

I have a bottle of MB Lavender ink to feed it.

How deep does this rabbit hole go, exactly?

The issue us not the depth of the particular rabbit hole you have stumbled upon. It is the number of different rabbit holes multiplied by the number of parallel universes. Best just to smile and you slide right on down. Takes less muscles than frowning. :)

Two pens arrived today that were ordered quite separately in time:

The first is a Rouge et Noir 1906 ebonite with an OB nib. The first shipment of this pen from La Couronne du Comte was stolen from its package, either by a customs or a postal employee in Chicago. Fortunately, the pen was insured, and its replacement arrived today. The ebonite has a beautiful matte finish, and I'm looking forward to inking it up.

The second pen, which I ordered impulsively, and probably paid too much for, is a near-mint condition Ernest Hemingway with a fine nib, with box and papers, from the Back Room at the Fountain Pen Hospital. The pen does appear to be in superb condition.

I'm looking forward to showing off these two, along with the coral Rouge et Noir pen in medium, at the upcoming Dallas Pen Show.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Congrats on the two exciting new pens. The Hemingway is expensive, but at least it is a great pen. I didn't get all the fuss until I has one. Enjoy!

Recently while traveling in Taiwan and Japan, family had the goal of purchasing a Mont Blanc; somehow ended up with two instead of one... the Leo Tolstoy and the Daniel Defoe, Both are wonderful writers, I appreciate the Leo Tolstoy since I prefer heavy pens, but the Daniel Defoe is also excellent.

My favorite places to shop for pens. I've travelled to Japan numerous times, but I have lived in Taiwan for stretches at a time due to my in-laws living there. The stores are fantastic, loads of pens, inks, and paper. This coupled with impeccable service was always a pleasure.

Nicely done! (pics?) ;)

Japan is an excellent place to buy limited edition models of pens, I was able to find some Pilot VPs there, but I regret not buying them... it is also much easier to find knowledgeable staff, which also makes the experience better. The airports typically have discounted prices as well as tax free sales of Mont Blancs, and we were fortunate to find them in fine nibs as well - overall great additions to the fountain pen collection.

The Defoe is currently being used by dad, I will have to snatch it up later. Is there a way to directly load photos from the computer onto the forum? I took pictures of the Tolstoy but it seems I may have to upload from a separate site in order to get the picture to display properly...

I got a 149 which I believe is exclusive to the Montblanc Botique in Alteir. It has a coat of arms of atelier on the nib. The box is also different. In other ways it is similar to the 149.

It is always nice to. See pictures of unusual MBs if you can spare the time :)

I purchased this pen two years ago but it's the most recent MB I had purchased in 10 years ! It is a Danish 216 from 1950 in the Coral color which was only produced in Denmark at that time. It has a lovely soft 14k F nib and as most of the Danish made pens is a button filler. It is a fabulous writer putting down a nice wet line with a nice shading of line width as one writes! I do like the Coral color allot and have decided I need to find another !! :)

Here's some of the sellers pics:

Bought a celluloid 146 and 142G from the flea market. Both have amazing nibs, the body of the 146 could be in better condition but everything works and the nib is amazing. Paid $550 for both, I wonder if that's a good price.

Pictures will follow once I stop playing with them, although the 142G is going to a friend :) Next up is 149 in celluloid and then I can move to the real big guns :P

134 and 136 from the Dallas Pen Show this weekend. I didn't intend to get both, but my negotiating skills are amazeballs

Always nice to see these "old school" writing instruments.

Haven't had a chance to buy such pens lately as I've been moving around to much.

The vintage Montblancs were thick on the ground at the Dallas Pen Show and there were some real beauties (like the 134 and 136 above). I brought home a wartime 134 that the seller dated to ~1940. It's marked for a F nib but this nib is definitely NOT F - which is great for me. I love the look of the long ink window. The nib looks wonky in the picture but that's the fault of my poor photography skills.
