A few observations so far:

- It is proper heavy! Possibly the heaviest Montblanc I have come across.

- It has no ink window. I consider this a good thing, no fear of staining from permanent inks.

- It refracts light in the most peculiar artistic fashion. You can see pinks, greens, reds and blues shimmer on the body in sunlight.

Congratulations my friend.....

Absolutely beautiful pen. I extremely like how montblanc this time went with the sterling silver section too, that just goes to complete the look. I find on a lot of the other solitaire metals where they still use the gloss black the section looks out of place somewhat and detracts from the overall look.

Definitely not the case here and it is a beautiful pen.
The hammered barrel of the tolstoy looked pretty amazing in person and it was only a matter of time it became more prominent of a design haha.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it and I am still so excited about it. I can't wait to get the OB nib that was originally supposed to come on it.

Seems the complete metal body (no plastic grip section) + (no ink window) is what makes it so heavy!

That looks amazing! I have the Tolstoy and this is definitely a step up from that. Can't find pricing on it anywhere though...

I find my handwriting is actually neater with heavier pens, especially when fitted with B or BB stub nibs- the pens tend to write themselves.

I think you get a similar phenomena in tennis. For example Nadal uses a very light racket because he has the power in his arms to direct play, whereas the far more slender physique of Federer favours a heavier racket (which I believe is lined with lead or some such material) so the weight of the racket does the work for him.

I like both tennis players, maybe I'd give a slight edge to Federer... Same goes for pens! :D

That's an interesting perspective. Now that you mention it, i do find my 149 more comfortable to use than my 145 and other similarly "smaller" pens, since the 149 is large enough and weighty/well tuned enough to basically write by itself, i just have to point it in the right direction to write, in contrast to the 145 where i feel i have to actually write. Quite hard to explain experience i think but your tennis analogy seems to perfectly match the situation!

I never thought about it this way, but now that you mentioned it so very true. The Heritage 1914 exhibits this phenomenon it just glides across the page, whereas I feel like I am guiding it rather than carrying it.

About pricing, the pen hasn't been released yet. The kind folks at Montblanc sold me this pre-release to compensate for the delay of my OB nib, which will probably take until end of year to arrive. They figured instead of making me wait for the pen, now I just wait for the nib. In Dubai, it was AED 5,600.

But this one is proper heavy. Just tried now, to the feel (I don't have a scale or anything) the weight felt equaled when it was in one hand and THREE 149s on the other.

3 Montblancs- ok that IS quite heavy! Price is high but considering what you get quite reasonable I think. I'll have to wait till end of year to see if my savings are up to the purchase... Enjoy your pen- it is one of the better Montblanc releases of late

Also, would love to see a writing sample when you have it fitted out with the BB nib.

Haha why thank you my friend :) and yeah go for it, it's truly a gorgeous pen surpassed my expectations in every way and was day dreaming about it since I saw the prototype in April.

If it encourages you, I started the year saying I'll buy only one pen in 2016. This was my 8th :/

Looks like it's trying to be a Montegrappa?

Leaky piston mechanism? Straight back to the shop, then.

Nice pen, otherwise.
