@ mana -- That's a lovely pen. I hadn't seen one of those before -- only now I want one.... :puddle: What ink are you using in it? I have an M200 which came with an IM nib, and that pen was so wet that I had to swap out the nib unit for a nicely tuned B instead -- even with iron gall inks it was too wet a writer.

@ alfredop -- Congratulations on the Café Crème. I didn't know that *any* place much had them in stock at this point (I got extremely lucky in finding the one with that IM nib on eBay after I'd lost the first pen last spring).

@ Christopher Godfrey -- the word you're looking for is "enabler". And yes, when it comes to "ornithological matters" Sargetalon is right up there with the best of them....

Heyo! The ink in it is an equal parts mix of Montblanc Blue Black (Iron Gall, the old version), distilled water and Caran D'Ache Hypnotic Turquoise. The concentrations vary with age and evaporation. On some pens, usually the more wet ones it is almost black, on some more like a nice greyish blue. When it dries and ages the iron gall has a tendency to turn the color a little towards darker hues. That mix has... character, not always predictable but the end result is usually very pleasant. Nice shading with wider nibs.

The pen, yeah, that was something I was lucky to get my hands on and it was a very fair price too, 150€, esp. given that nib and general condition of the pen. It has a distinctly different celluloid pattern and color too compared to the usual green and greyish green 100N of that era. First one I have seen. The seller had other 100N that had similar pattern bindes of lighter green color, nothing like that though.

Actually, with respect, I wasn't looking for any word other than those I used, Ruth... ;^)

Although my main interest in ornithological matters is pre-war Pelikans, I recently acquired a beautiful brown tortoise 101LE (thanks Daoud!), which is mostly gorgeous <green>, because of a long-ago review on The Pelikan's Perch -- so I reckon that that makes Sargetalon guilty of...subversion? Subliminal persuasion? Something along those lines. <Thanks>, Joshua! ;^))

I already have a red tortoise LE, so lord knows when I shall ever afford a vintage lizard...

I'm just a humble flock keeper and if I can help to place a few birds in good homes along the way, all the better. Congrats on the new pen!

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

I decided this year to concentrate on Italic based pens as I love the beauty of Italic writing. So when I got the chance to get a new old stock Pelikan that is Italic, I had to have it. This is my first attempt at macro photography.

My first Pelikan is on the way and I'm excited. Getting the Souverän M805 Demonstrator. Hopefully it will be here quickly.

The above pen arrived and like most fine pens is nicer in person than than the photos show. A nice weight, not light nor overly heavy and it feels good in my hand unposted as I use pens unposted. Time to ink it and give it the real test.

That's an awfully fine "first Pelikan".

You know, if you put it with another one they breed almost as fast as rabbits, and eat 'lettuce' just about as fast. You're gonna love it though. Welcome to the tribe.

I'm afraid you're all too right about them breeding. I've gotten a number of new pens recently and told myself to use them and get to know how they write before even thinking about any more pens. Wish me luck!

M800 with [stock] Italic Broad nib.

Sometimes i think it's a little too broad ... and may ask John Mottishaw to narrow it a bit to say 1.1mm and into a true italic.

Ink: Noodler's Baystate Blue.

The more I use it, the more I like it.

A '50's 400 maxi-semi-flex OB, + it's matching 355 BP. in real excellent shape. The real nice good leather flap pen case is not from then, but modern and looks to be the best of the 7-8 that I have.

Live auction, start price 80E, got it for 90 as second bid....in he was sitting before me in the hall, his bid was called first.

I spoke to the other bidder a bit later outside....he just wanted a good fountain pen, having only two....I almost feel bad...it is in the best shape of my 400's...I think, not that they are not in good shape, but I'll find out when I pick it up on Tuesday. I had been quite happy witht he green topping left on my two 400's before so, this one to my mind must even be better....looking almost unused.

It looks like I'll be getting rid of my D-nibbed 400 then. Doubles are hard enough for me to justify much less triples...not I was counting the D nib as a double. ... even if it is.

Received my new M600 and M800 back from Pendleton Brown. These are two wonderful pens. I hesitated to send them off for modification. They wrote so well. But, now they are superb. What lines, so smooth, and so much fun to write with. Thank you Pelikan, and Pendleton.

First use of my first Pelikan. Medium nib and the ink is Pilot's murasaki-shikibu (Japanese Beautyberry) on Tomoe River paper. Excuse the poor handwriting, excitment had me writing too quickly and my handwriting deteriorates.

A green marbled Ibis. Missing the nib. Got it for Rs.300.00 ($3.00 approx). Now starts the search for the nib. Hopefully I would find it.
