What do we have here? Few recent purchases, Pelikan pen box for 10 pens & few books that some of you might recognize. And of course my current flock of 100/101N. ;)

Oh and now that that last picture is out there I would like to utter out loud (or in this case type) a general "Caveat Emptor" when buying things from ebay.

The leftmost pen is my EDC, it currently sports a wonderful flexy and expressive F-nib.

It also has a cap from another 100N I bought that was advertised as "Near Mint". Ok, the pen body and the nib were without flaws but the cap had started to shrink/deform (not really evident in the pictures) and the furniture (as in the trims) were completely brassed out but polished to a shine.

Now, in the pictures it was more than fine and really something that could have been only spotted when compared side by side to a cap with intact gold trims. I had to do a few double takes myself initially when I got the pen. It really was somewhat disappointing as I had paid what I consider a premium for that particular pen both in money and actual effort.

As you can see, the clip and the rings have slowly turned to a more dull & slightly greenish yellow appearance of not so recently polished brass. In the end the whole thing is fine as it is, as in, the only thing that I would miss from that pen (if lost or stolen) would be that wonderful nib. Maybe it was a lesson for me. Maybe I am a happy that I have a EDC pen that I do not have to worry about that much. :D

Anyway, I have my sights set for more 100/101N, hopefully the next acquisition will not be as costly (at least in comparison, looking to acquire a nice 101N at the moment). ;)

Resuming the discussion of Pelikans, :)

There were only a few at the DC show that interested me. Joel and Sherrell had a Piazza Navona 620 from the City Series that I may pick up if they still have it at the Dallas Show. This is an understated, but quite beautiful pen. They also had one of the 605 dark blue pens that seem to be popular these days. There were a couple of Vermeil Green Tortoises, at least one in mint condition, floating around, as well as an M850. Rick Propas had a few rare vintage Pels that were quite collectible, but nothing that really spoke to me. There were a fair number of the elaborate Maki-e M1000s available at astronomical prices, but Japanese decoration of a Teutonic pen produces a cognitive dissonance that I can't quite get around. I must admit that they are impeccably done.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

"but Japanese decoration of a Teutonic pen produces a cognitive dissonance that I can't quite get around. I must admit that they are impeccably done."

Here is a thought to chew on with your order of cognitive dissonance:

Wabi-Sabi , the traditional expression of the Japanese aesthetic, includes as the three constants "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete".

Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, asperity (roughness or irregularity), simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wabi-sabi

Less is More, and the German modern design principals of the Bauhaus. The integration of form following function in architecture, art, graphic design, product design, and furniture. An aesthetic in which the artist is in complete control of the process.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bauhaus

I put the above small appetizer plates (with emphasis added) on the table, simply to serve up this main course.

Your cognitive dissonance is very real.

It is Wabi-Sabi meets Alles im Ordnung.

I'm waiting impatiently for the arrival of a burgundy P1 with an OBB nib. Goofy little pens but I really like them.

Very nice, Joshua. I really like the yellow Toledo.

How do you feel about the plain black and gold in your collection?

Mana, your collection is looking marvelous! Don't worry too much about the brassing (unfortunate) of that one pen: you can always have it renewed at some stage, if it bothers you.

Joshua's collection looks amazing. Plain and simple...

Jay, I think I'm with you on maki-e for a Pelikan; but I did enjoy Dick's reply -- a lot!

Happy hunting, all. Nothing new around here recently, alas!

The black is actually a favorite. It's simple, always fashionable, never out of place, and embodies the traditional German conservatism.

That pen collector box is taking its sweet time getting to market.

Sagretalon, yes, the dealer told me even if i have placed an order it will be available somewhere in November? It is actually strange as i see other shops online offering it for purchase.

Regarding the Black version, i wanted to order that one as well... but decided to think about it for awhile if i really need it. After writing for a while with a green striped version, the plain black version looks a bit pale and anderstated for me, i do not know why.

Now i am on the market for M800 Tortoiseshell Brown.

Glad to hear that sentiment! I've dug up mine and am writing a lot with it and wondering sometimes whether it's too plain or just the right kind of understatement. It does let you focus on the nib!

Furious, we take "Exception" at the publication of newly acquired Waterman pens in the Pelikan forum :D (sorry, couldn't resist!).

Sargetalon, that's an amazing collection of M800's. Congrats!

Those big birds seem to be reproducing pretty fast at the "Perch"...

Ummm... seems that I have encountered my first ever -1 ... My green EDC 100N (leftmost one in the pictures that had the cap with the brassed trims) has gone missing along with my Hahnemühle reporter style A5 notebook that it was clipped to.

The last I remember of it was when I was helping my fiancée pack as she getting ready to embark for a few weeks trip back stateside. I was pondering if I should grab my pen and notebook to go along but then decided not to. And that is the last I remember of it.

I have no recollection of having it in the cab, nor at the airport. I didn't get back to needing it until a few days after the fact and having searched the apartment high and low and asking her if it piggybagged with her to the states the end result is zip, nada, nothing. I also checked our offices but nothing there either... My only hope is that it still somewhere hidden in our apartment, or somewhere in her luggage.

Oh well, such is life. Kind of a reality check for me, might have a break on hoarding... er, collecting 100N. ;)

Just found an M620 New York just calling out to me from a small pen shop window in Italy and added an M120N so it would not feel lonely on the long way home.

I am pretty jazzed about the New York :-)

Not a pen, but a nib. I just got a 14c O3B nib in. Talk about serious nibbage! Unfortunately I will not get to try it out til later tonight, but I can't wait  :puddle:
