I picked up a New Pelikan M800 in green stripe back in March from the Bay at a good price. Sent same to Shawn Newton for a new binde in blue lizard. Now I am patiently (read impatiently) waiting until it makes it's way up the cue to get made! It will be one of very few in the world, I really can't wait! (Hint, hint!!) lol

Shawn currently has two of my M805s waiting for blue and grey lizard celluloid bindes (excellent choice on the blue lizard, by the way, the pictures are some of the most striking pens I've seen) and an M1000 waiting for green striped ebonite binde. I too am waiting patiently (also impatiently). He mentioned that he does all his Pelikan bindes at once, so hopefully he's building up enough of them to warrant starting the work.

Please do post several pictures when you gents receive your pens. I love what he does with them. I've thought several times I might send off an M800 or M1000 to get a unique binde, but I've not yet done it. If I happen across a "beater" pen that could use a new binde, I'll definitely do it.

Just got a Pelikan 400 set pen and pencil with an OBB nib, in tortoise and crock case. A real winner and a joy to own and write with.

A Taylorix 6-JG DEF arrived in the mail yesterday! Am I odd for liking manifold nibs?

Not really. I find that a smooth manifold nib is excellent for rapid note taking. For that use, a flexy nib is more of a hindrance. On the other hand I haven't seen carbon paper for many years so I guess making carbon copies is out of the question... ;)

My #10 post WWII 100N, this time a true grey binde 100N with a black matching pencil and a pen pouch. Oh, I bid against this guy called c***h... I wonder who that is? ;)

Can't wait to see it. I have a pen waiting to be sent to him, but unfortunately not the funds, yet! I also haven't chosen what material I'd like... But I guess I have time :)

I'll certainly post pictures once they come back. Choosing materials was pretty tough. There are a lot of really great options. Replacing bindes is quite an indulgence, but having a pen that's suited just for you can be a really nice gift (or gift to one's self).

Yes, you're right! I didn't really put my finger on it until you mentioned it. I haven't dealt with carbon paper for some time now but if I ever have to, I am ready.

Fleamarket find day, this time a black pre-war Pelikan IBIS with a really nice 14K/585 IBIS nib, flexy and fun. Otherwise in good shape but needs a polish and a new cork piston seal. Anyone have the specs for those btw., as in, inner/outer diameter and height?

Well duh... the barrel of the IBIS is cracked at the rear, didn't notice it until I took it apart. Hmmm... The nib is awesome though and all the other parts aside from the piston seal are in great shape, will be on the lookout for a new barrel, methinks.

Arrived this morning from melpens.com in Kuala Lumpur: an M625 Sterling Silver Transparent Blue with broad nib. It was fun tracking the package's journey from Malaysia to Hong Kong to Cincinnati to Boston to Maine.

Okiedokie... one more post WWII green binde 100N coming my way... So, what makes this 100N more special? Ok, the nib is an M with the "modern" pattern used in the later 140 and from there 400 series pens onwards, first one of those for me. Second, it has the 100N inscribed in the cap top. Second first for me. ;)

Ok, got the pen yesterday, it is minty aside from a thin ring of inky celluloid at the cap end of the binde. That aside, to make it even more interesting it is one of the models which seems to need the nib removal tool. Found it out as I tried to take the nib unit out and was left holding the feed and the nib in my hand (the retaining collar with the two cut-outs for the removal tool was left in the section). Ooopsie but no damage to the parts though. Interesting...

It was the same with my 400NN but after I soaked the nib section in warm water for half an hour the nib feed and the collar came out with gentle unscrewing.

Ok, received the "grey" 100N which turned out to be later end bog standard sea green/grey instead. Nib is F, old Pelikan 14 karat stamp on it, that also frankly rather boring non-flexible one (marked with a +). Interestingly enough that nib unit is also one of the later gen ones with the cut-outs for the nib removal tool, old (and busted) piston seal was from that era too. Cleaned it up, gave it a new piston seal along with some basic servicing and am currently soaking it internally to remove some ink stains on the ink window. It is fairly minty otherwise with an excellent cap. There is one spot of marring on the outside of the ink window, need to polish that off too.

I am admittedly a bit miffed about the color though (in the pictures it was as grey as can be) and that the nib is what it is... Oh well, also got a nice black AUCH Pelikan MP and a neat black & red soft Pelikan pen pouch with them. Those were actually the highlights of that purchase. I need to condition the leather on that one, the MP is fine as it is.

...and the marring was actually a crack. Ok, not leaking though but that one goes straight to users. Oh the joys of buying used & vintage :D
