Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us! - 2016

The history goes like this:

I bought the pen with a broken clip and no sac for a song. Then I spent the weekend making my own Swan Rouge et Noir using the snake clip from my Edison Collier and Testors enamel model paint.

Brilliant! I thought that top looked a bit extreme and not quite right, but I didn't want to say anything to question the authenticity.

Now, to see it in action.

Received this beautiful Falcon today. The nib is much harder than I imagined it to be though and requires a lot of force to produce any line variation, and much harder than the Pilot Custom 74. When writing casually with it it feels like a nail just like my Platinum 3776.

I really hope it will become softer otherwise I've wasted a lot of money.

Perhaps I had unrealistic expectations

Ewe wee, that's a pretty nib

One can only hope I guess. I'm not totally optimistic about it breaking in and it doesn't appear to have shown any signs so far, could it be that I get used to it instead.

I've had five Falcons over the years, and all have had a breaking in period of anywhere from two to six months (my use is inconsistent). They'll never be "vintage" flexible, but they're certainly more capable than most self-titled experts claim. I suspect a good number of the people who hate Falcons because they tried them and the nibs were hard and unyielding is because they tried a new model that had never been written with before.

Gee perhaps I'm being a wee bit pessimistic expecting it to change after about 5 days then, but we shall see and hope.

I was writing with it just now before writing with my Decimo. When I first got the Decimo a few months ago it felt very hard and rough too, but the thing is my feeling of it changed only after I used the Falcon. Now the Decimo feels springy(zero line variation though) and smooth, in direct contrast to the Falcon.

So maybe there's a bit of psychology involved in this 'breaking in'. I'm thinking the extra fine-ness of the Falcon I have also adds to it's feeling of hardness too.

The pen in rotation is Lamy Nexx with 1.1 Stub Nib which is inked with Kale Blue Ink which is one of the locally produced ink by one of the pen seller under Kale Pens. Kale Pen is fountain pen shop in Pune which manufactures and sells Parker style pens and also inks. Surprisingly the inks are also sold in plastic pouches.

And today's inspiration comes from one of the greatest travellers of all time, Ibn Batuta.

Fountain pen novice. I am aquiring pens at a frightening pace, I am afraid it might be an addiction... I see I am not alone here on FPN! Latest acquisitions - Platinum 3776 Kumpoo with Diamine Eau de Nil, Opus 88 Koloro inked with Diamine November Rain, Franklin-Christoph Model Pocket 66 prototype inked with Franklin-Christoph Honeycomb.

Empty of Clouds, looks like a Parker Vacumatic to me.

Mehandiratta, A quote from Ibn Batuta! Very cool, I've read a translation of his book.

Just inked my Filcao Atlantica d'Oro. Beautiful, smooth writing pen. Not so sure about the ink: J. Herbin Lie de The. It's got more of a green cast than I expected.

My fingers are always inky and I'm always looking for something new.  Interested in trading?  Contact me!
