Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us! - 2016

Diplomaat, there are DC fountain pens!? *gets so excited hyperventilating starts*

I think I've found my next fountain pen lol.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you find the Montegrappa writes? I've never used one from that company before.

Oh, and you mentioned looking for somewhere in Europe to sort your nib? Goldnibs.com have good reviews from what I can tell and are based in Spain.

Hi PrettyPink! Thanks for the advice on Goldnibs. They look like a good option for some work! I am due for a visit first with someone here in France, we'll see how that develops.

The DC Pens, I personally like them! My wife knew that a Fountain Pen would be an awesome gift and took it even further by mixing it up with my love for comics. The Green Lantern was especially a good choice because (a) I do like the character and (B) green is my favorite color.

Regarding the writing experience, Montegrappa's are on the heavier side of pens from the little I know. I may be mistaken, since this is my first one. It does feel heavier than my other pens. Still, without capping the pen I can write comfortably. The nib is good, I believe it only comes in M however. Mine has a slight tendency to skip every so often, which is one of the problems I am looking to solve. Once that's solved, I like it for my personal journal.

Sir, I admire your regrinding work! Wow... Can't imagine even attempting this... Do I understand correctly that you have reground it to use both sides of the nib?

I've taken to modifying Pilot Penmanship (EF) nibs to fit into my TWSBIs. All but three have them now. Today I used my white Eco to do my daily sketching. I just love how thin the lines are from this nib, smooth and feedback-y, somewhat like a pencil.

I love your sketches Teahive and those eyes, with the thin strokes provided by your pen, look really good!

Lovely gifts and I am sure they are going to be put to good use! Enjoy!

Fountain pen novice. I am aquiring pens at a frightening pace, I am afraid it might be an addiction... I see I am not alone here on FPN! Latest acquisitions - Platinum 3776 Kumpoo with Diamine Eau de Nil, Opus 88 Koloro inked with Diamine November Rain, Franklin-Christoph Model Pocket 66 prototype inked with Franklin-Christoph Honeycomb.

To grind is to make use of pens.

Yes. Back side is crisp Italic. Writes drier due to pressure applied to nib, hence closing the thines slit and allows less ink flow.

Front side normal Italic, stubbish ..due to generous ink flow for flexing italics does not show unless you write really fast and with light pressure..just kidding just light pressure.

That is quite the vibrant blue!! Even though I'm not usually a fan of blue hues, this one has my eye. Thank you for sharing!

I haven't found Lamy EF nibs to be all that fine, but yours almost looks like a medium! Eek! Maybe some nib tweeking is in order, if you want it finer.

More lovely blue inks.. I've used Sargasso Sea and enjoyed it. Cornflower is new to me. Hmm.. Maybe I'm warming up to blue inks after all. Love your Delta!

Thank you! I'm working an "ink doodle a day" for the year. Some days have been better than others, but it's all been fun so far! I can't get enough of these super fine nibs. ;) They're great for details.

Not sure if this is the right tool for EoC. Only had this for 4 days so far but even so, an oblique pen holder feels somehow more 'correct' in this one's hand. A bit more testing before a decision on whether to keep or pass on perhaps?

I am using BLACKSTONE AXIOM which I have reviewed here

Some pictures of my Sailor Sigma (currently out of rotation). Sailor Jentle Blue is fun, btw.

So here are the latest acquisitions... I didn't picture the Lamy Vista 1.5 because I've already posted enough pictures as it is and I've posted a different Vista before, this one only changes in the nib

Believe me or not, I copied (well, tried to copy) a lot from this awesome thread. After six months of practice, my handwriting is enriched and more consistent - thanks to you all.

Excellent penmanship! And another Eco! They're great little pens, aren't they? Also, that Sherwood Green looks way better in a "real" photo than a stock photo from an online shop. Might have to get a small bottle after seeing this.

I am so envious of your awesome talent

Why, I'm flattered! Like all artists, it's "never good enough." But this one time, I think my work came out alright. ;) No need to be envious. You have the tools needed. They're only a bunch of lines on paper. Go forth, and create! (If that is your wish! Haha.)

A Desiderata! How does the material feel? I sold my wooden one because it was too pretty for me to use in my art. I was afraid of ruining it. Now I kind of regret selling it, though the new owner is pleased. Perhaps I'll get one of these models someday. I did enjoy the feel and flow.

EOC Flex = Infinite possibilities; Broad Edge - can also have infinite possibilities.

Nifty pens! Are they both quill like, or just the one with the blue cap?

Since I said I'd continue to share, here we go!

A bit of a dorky story here: This is the "muse" from the last sketch I shared. I decided to make an art model of her by creating her likeness as a Sims 3 character, and I followed her around with the in-game camera to take screen shots of different expressions and poses. xD Hah! So I will probably be doing many sketches of this lovely lady.

Feel is subjective of course but here we go. Delrin feels very much like the plastic used in a fine-liner. EoC has Mitsubishi Uni Pin fine-liner pens and they feel exactly the same. Micron pens are the same. By comparison this one's Pilot CH912 has much more 'expensive' feel to it, but that may because of the surface finish which is hard and highly polished. The Delrin also does not feel as 'solid' as the material in (say) an Esterbrook J.

It's hard to describe really. Overall the Daedalus feels like what it is, a plastic tube.

More importantly though, it functions exactly as you would expect, and does so very well indeed. So, aesthetics aside, this could be the pen you are looking for! Personally, EoC would have much preferred a wood version, but that option was only available to the fortunate few.

Edit: teahive, your drawings are embarrassingly good!

You described it very well! I think I have a pretty good idea about how the delrin would feel in my own hand. Thank you so much! I may have to wait until other materials are available, after all. Ebonite, most likely. I don't think I'd like a pen that doesn't have a sturdiness to the material.

And thank you for the kind words about my drawings. Some days are better than others, of course, but I feel like I've been improving the past few months. ^.^ So there's that.

It is all so subjective, isn't it. The Daedalus is a great pen for sketching and I love the feel of the Delrin. It feels warm to me and softer than Uni-Pin, Sakura, or other fine liners, which I use a lot for designing & drawing. I also like the clean lines of the Daedalus - nothing superfluous or fancy.

I have two Pilot 912s and whilst I agree they are more finished in appearance and they're very good quality, I don't enjoy the feel as much as the Daedalus. I like the idiosyncratic nature of the Delrin; it feels different to any of my other pens. I wish more pens were made of it.

Very true. And yes, it does feel a little soft. It's not unpleasant, has a certain tactility to it and as stated it performs very well. EoC would have preferred to have had a roll stop to add a small counterpoint to the acres of matt blackness, but again that is only a personal preference. If an accommodation clip can be found or made - might have to ask local jewellers - then EoC would be really interested.

In general, the pen is perfectly good, and is a lot of fun to play with. Just not sure if it something to keep going forward.

To note, EoC is not a collector and does not have the luxury of the level of funding that permits accumulation, so in order to try new things old things must go. Wish that it were otherwise but sadly it is not.

Great job with the Soft Fine nib! I've got a #3776 SF too, but in my hand, it's not so soft. Love it anyway.

Definitely? It depends. Your flex writing with Desiderata is much more impressive than mine with 52V.

Love the quote - and your Italic. What's interesting, the line of your Ottantotto P Fine looks "fatter" than that of mine, marked as "M". Have to ink this Aurora, it's a shame to have such a glorious pen sitting idle for almost a month.

Happy writing!
