Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us! - 2016

I have Emerald of Chivor loaded in an inexpensive Jinhao pen. The nib has been turned into a marvelous stub.

The writing is kind of a mess, but it was late when I wrote it. "These days, too, will someday be the good old days", or as they say in Dutch...

Thank you I.M. :)

There is a little elasticity at the end of the UEF nib which allows to vary a little the line. But this UEF nib is indeed a very fine and precise nib.

The inks are: Waterman Havane, Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo and Louis Vuitton's Rouge Libertin. But the photo doesn't do justice to either of them.

Thank you, I'm always curious to see which inks people are using :) I hope we'll be seeing more of your pens here when you have time, I'm fairly certain that you've got several interesting beauties in your collection.

Lazy days. Here's a coloured version of my drawing from yesterday.

I use De Atramentis archive black ink, which is completely waterproof.

Great art work Tomas, it already looked excellent before colour, but I have to admit that the golden yellow of that car takes the sketch a whole level higher.

Thank you. My writing samples are far less flattering - I'm still trying to tame this beautiful pen.

Eli I really don't think you need to be worrying about your 'writing samples'. I'm impressed by the number of styles you practice and polish. :)

This is a fountain pen that I just restored.

The nib says Astro Iridio Extra. No idea what brand that is, even FPN database don't have anything on it.

But the flex is fun.

Was recommending on another thread that if you wish to learn to write with a flexible-nibbed fountain pen, that you start with a straight holder and a semi-flex nib, rather than an oblique holder and a full-flexible nib. My suggestion for a good starter nib is the very common Esterbrook 048 Falcon. These were Esterbrook's number one selling nib for over 70 years. The older ones are slightly more flexible, but even the very latest ones, where instead of hand grinding across the top of the tines to increase flexibility, they started to machine-stamp grooves, are worlds more flexible than even most modern fountain pens labeled as soft or even flexible. There are vintage pens which are more flexible, and and many which are being flexed more than they should be, but if you can write with one of these nibs, you're on your way to being able to write with most flexible nib fountain pens.

Here's my example.

Our daughter is fast a sleep, my wife is sitting next to my, knitting, and I'm filling out the first page in my new sketchbook with my trusted TWSBI Diamond 580 - oh, and it's a Fabriano Venezia sketchbook. I'll add watercolours tomorrow, I hope the paper can take it. Life is great!

EOC, I enjoy your handwriting and the quotes you choose. Many of your quotes have become part of my daily notebook and passed on to family, friends and students. My handwriting is adequate, seeing many of the beautiful hands here, I laugh to myself when my handwriting is praised by my colleagues. My paltry skills will not stop me from enjoying my pens, all Chinese and less than $8 including shipping, and the lovely inks available.

I read Rumi's "The Guest House" today for the first time.

Richila, your hand has a pleasing 'roundness' to it that complements the simple truths of Rumi's words. A wonderful author, yes?

Thank you.

Rumi tells us truths in a way that resonates with the soul.

Gorgeous.

I really like the subtle overlap from the frame edge at the bottom. Beautiful work. Thanks for sharing. :)

Tomas, again amazing stuff, keep it coming. :)

It's hard to compete with a professional artist.;)

I love it, love it!!

I will be eagerly looking forward to see your urban sketch books. Let us know when.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm really glad you like it.

Because it's a new sketchbook I was really looking forward to see what it can take of pressure. I still need to do a couple more sketches before I make my mind up, but so far I'm satisfied, not impressed, but satisfied and that's OK.

I'll spam you with more sketches, hope you will enjoy them too.

Take care

Tomas

Hi all,

Just stopping in for a quick moment to stay Hi - the rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated. :)

I am still using fountain pens but due to some difficult times haven't had any moments to visit here. Expect more from me later in 2016.

Here's what I have inked today:

The Pelikan was in my pocket hiding when the second photo was taken.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Depends...

The vac when I need to do a lot of fast writing without paying any attention to the writing itself (example: during an interview). The Parker when I'm in a meeting and have to take some notes here and a few notes there. The Sheaffer when I can pay attention to the writing proces (it's a little more to the italic side, but when held correctly, it's a dreamnib).

To try one of these factory stubs is my wet dream - since I saw a writing sample nearly a year ago. Got a soft spot for all things Sheaffer's.

Practice, patience, perseverance

Today's pen is a very lovely writer, Edison Herald Grande "Copperflake," loaded with de Atramentis (scented) Cola ink. It's a combination that I am really enjoying today:
